LSJ GMS3 Questions/Troubleshooting.
#26
if you want the real truth you shouldent spin a lsj past 6500 on the stock balancer the stock balancer dosent do a thing for the engine after that besides start shaking **** loose so if you want to be safe get the ati balancer
and i am guilty of spinning stock valve train to 8000 a couple of times on the dyno and spinning it regulary to 7500 even with the pos stock balancer
I know the LSJ can take a beating, and reving it to/past 7,500 rpm wont cause an immediate failure the first time. I just want to make sure that people who are new to the platform don't go rev the **** out of it, and think it's going to be reliable over the long run ya know?

Yes, but with the proper cooling mods you can avoid it/keep the heat at bay.
-Properly working intercooling system
-Meth
-E85
The above options all help. Your customers car def needs some attention drawn towards the cooling system.
If you were to build an LSJ correctly you really need to start with an exhaust ported head. The exhaust ports are so tiny, and cause airflow restrictions once you start flowing more air. Now, there have been a handful of people who have made decent power w/o dipping into head work and such, but to "really" do it right with out cutting corners a ported head will help a lot.

I have looked into building a older Ion redline (mostly as a track car, as i have retired track racing my cobalt since i still make payments and it is my DD)
I'd most likely stick with the m62. Interesting on the porting of the head.

I'm not sure why people that want to build up a decent LSJ engine don't just follow the steps found in the LSJ build book. I know it can be costly, and it isn't "impossible" to make good power on the stock internals, but the info is there why not follow it, ya kno?
