Question Max Safe Temp

Good day,
Yesterday, While driving along the Flordia turnpike to visit my sister for christmas, I naturaly hit construction and a major traffic slowdown. I Cringed as I was forced to feather my clutch in and out being forced to creep along slower then what my car would in idle in first gear. Normaly my car runs at 180F. Before the slowdown I was cruising along at aprox 70mph. However, my coolant naturaly began to rise as I stoped. This is normal, Ive seen it go into the 190s... However, this time, it kept going up? I dont remember if my fan came on or not, however it maxed out at about 217. This is about the timespan of 15 minutes or so. When the temp hit 217, I turned on the heater full balst, and while the heater was running full blast, my temp cooled to about 190 - 195 and ran there until I was through traffic. Then I reacelerated, coolant droped to 180, and my car seemed to run fine. I never got an engine light nor an overtemp light.

At what temp should we start to worry? What temp does the light come on at? When does the fan come on? Any other info would be nice. Thank you,

fan turns on high at 220° and ive never seen it go higher than 225° once the fan kicked on. There was a point when my fan broke last summer and the temp got to about 245° before the DIC started yelling at me. Still drive-able though (i had to drive it to get some air flowing through the radiator again I saw 252° before i got on the freeway)

I've had a balt here in FL for the past 3 years, and it shouldn't get higher than 225*, whether you're stuck in traffic, sitting at idle for a long time, etc. Like Hunter said, shouldn't be higher than 225* EVER. lol

Have your fans set to activate earlier. When my car was tuned i had zach put my fans to turn on at like 190ish. Never seen coolant temps over that now.
