Angry mpg question

I recently bought an 06 SS/SC that has an injen cold air intake and exhaust system. I have put premium gas in the car ever since I have owned it. 40k miles.

Pressed the "i" button the other day to see how my gas mileage was doing. It seems to be going downhill. Reading 16mpg average driving in city. a few days ago it was at 18 mpg/city. My driving style is conservative, yet I am getting what seems to be crappy mileage. Is that normal?

btw, how does that "i" button work anyway for mpg economy?

winter time you'll get crappy mileage, it's normal. Try resetting the guage every now and then. if you never reset it, it will read low eventually, especially if you let the car warm up or are stopped often, in which cases you're getting zero mpg.

thanks a lot for clearing the mpg question up.

does that mean the "fuel range" isn't accurate as well?

for example i am at half a tank and my fuel range is giving 96 miles remaining.

yes the fuel range is dependant on the dic's mpg estimate, how is the car running?

I have drove with out stoping on one whole tank of gas, my fuel range constanly updated its self and was dead on when I was empty.... so idk if it works of of the avrg fuel or by its self haha

well thats all highway going one speed which isnt hard to estimate. it goes up and down if you go between highway and city driving

it's very accurate, under certain conditions. If you fill up, rest the dic, and your driving is consistent for the whole tank, it will be pretty spot on. The way it works is it keeps a running average. So if you are driving for 3 hours on the highway, and the dic says 35mph, but then you hit some heavy stop and go traffic, it will slowly start to go down. You can be driving in an hour of heavy traffic, and it says you're getting 29mpg, which obviously you're not. Works the opposite way. You'rs says 16 now. If you go cruise on the highway, it will still say 16 for a while, and slowly go up. Try resetting the dic when the conditions change, and you'll get a better idea.

As area has proven, if you have larger injectors, the MPG and fuel range will skewed. The larger the injectors, the worse it gets.
