My Idea...

So I was reading the post about the manual boost controller, and was wondering if I would be able to run something smaller than a 3" pulley but use the MBC to keep the boost at 14.5-15lbs since the only thing I have is an intake. Seems the smaller pulley would be able to build boost faster, but then it leaves the possibility leaning out the engine. Should I do this, or just go with a 3" pulley until I can get the funds to do other things. I seem to be able to find tons of 2.8" pulleys for sale cheap, but not many 3". Just trying to feed a little speed to my ride...lol Any advice is welcomed and appreciated. Thanks.

a boost controller....for a blower? i've never heard of anything like that. as far as i know the only thing that controls boost on a blower is pulley size.

Yeah blowers are run by belts and the speed the belt rotates is based on the pullys mounted to the SC and the Engine. There is not way to controll the amount of boost with a controler. But i could be wrong i need to see it to belive it, and at that i would still be confused

No no. A boost controller is for a turbo car only. Really dont think you can run one of those on a SC. Just get a smaller pulley, thats the only way to increase boost

there's some misinfo going around here, he already knows how to increase boost with a smaller pulley, we all do

He was asking how to control that boost, and THERE ARE WAYS

our stock computer can control boost, and some are experimenting with aftermarket controlers.

Our blowers can bypass air, which limits boost.

with HPTuners you can control the amount of boost in a given gear

however I wouldn't reccomend just swapping pullies without doing the supporting fuel mods and tuning.

but there are ways for Supercharged cars to control boost

oooohhh i see. i thought he was trying to up the boost with the same pulley. it would be kind of pointless. especially on a front wheel drive car, you really don't want to build boost much faster than you already are because of traction issues. if you go smaller pulley, do the proper fuel upgrades and tuning, it wouldn't be worth it to go with a smaller pulley and not make more boost.

exactly guys they make boost controllers for superchargers...its not the same as with a turbo...you cant just turn it up but it for if you have say mayb a 2.5 pully and you dont want the 25psi or whatever it is...you can limit it and make it around 17psi...you cant raise it with one but you can def lower it if you want

Yeah, that's what I was asking about. I read the post that was on here before about a MBC for the S/C...you cut the hose that you would normally pull off for the Boost Bypass Mod and connect it there. I've heard that it's ok to run as low as a 3" pulley on a stock engine, but since I keep finding 2.8" cheaper, run the 2.8" pulley and put a MBC on to limit the boost from the 17lbs or so down to a safer 14.5-15lbs. The smaller pulley will also allow boost to build faster, but if the engine isn't getting enough fuel for the speedy boost up, then it would lean out and blow the engine.

i know this doesn't pertain to the OP but just to point out, it doesn't matter how much boost you bypass or what not, you can still redline the charger which can be very bad.
