Nate's 2.9 pulley question!!!

Ok, I am stoked that I should have the pulley by Wed and installed by friday. My question is this. How hard is the pulley to install? How long does it take and do you have to take off the supercharger??? I bought the new bolts from him to make it a little bit easier, but how difficult is the overall process of removing the stage 2 pulley, and installing the new one. Thanx in advance.

First of all, do you already have a stage II hub on the car? If so, changing the pulley should not take you more than 5 minutes.

Take your stage II MT-2 pulley bolts removal tool (the weird looking screwdriver bit thing) and loosen up your bolts just a little. Use the tension on the belt to help keep the pulley from spinning when you try to loosen the bolts.

Next take a 15 millimeter open ended wrench (the longer the wrench, the better for leverage) and place it on the little black square nub right behind the tensioner pulley. Now, slowly apply pressure down AND towards the firewall of the car. This should slack up the belt enough to slip it off the blower pulley. Do not remove the belt completely. Place the belt in a position that would make it easier to re-install and so you don't have to try to re-align the belt on the other pulleys.

Remove the pulley bolts and stage pulley from your blower hub.

Slip on Nate's pulley and install the new bolts supplied. Get the bolts reasonably tight so there is no movement in the pulley on the hub when you go to re-install the belt.

Re-install the belt as opposite of the directions above. Be careful to make sure that the ribs on the belt are perfectly aligned with the grooves on the rest of the pulleys. Nothing ruins a day faster than shredding your belt.

now tighten the bolts on the pulley. GM recommends you tighten the pulley bolts to 15lb ft of torque. If you don't have a torque wrench, please know that 15 lbs is NOT a lot of torque. Just make sure that the bolts a tight, but not too tight, and that they are tightened equally.

Now you are ready to drive the snot out of your car.

After driving for a while, it is always a good idea to re-check the bolts on the pulley to make sure that they are still seated tightly and that the pulley is in good order.

Enjoy.

In my opinion 15 ft/lbs is not enough torque for a bolt that gets severe vibration such as these. Lots of people do however report they do not come loose, but I used blue threadlocker and went to 30 ft/lbs.

Yea, I have the GM Stage 2 on my car, K&N typhoon inake, zzp shorty header, Ingalls torque Dampener, and B&M sts (with stock knob). I hope for the 2.9 pulley to put me around 260 hp. I dynoed 241 with stage 2 and intake. You guys think I can get 19 whp with header and smaller pulley???? After this I would like to get a downpipe and exhaust. which would hopefully finish me around 275-285 hp.
