Need help with a wiring issue!!!!

i have a ground cable that is coming from the alternator and just hanging down by the starter. where is this supposed to ground to?

also, while i was swapping my clutch, my buddy thought he would be funny an move the shifter whithout telling me. in first gear, where should the linkage be?

If you are talking about the wire connected to the threaded post on the alternator, it's not a ground. That would be the +12v charge wire. It connects on the starter post where the battery cable connects.

it look jus like the batery ground that goes to the starter, but smaller wire. has the metal loop at the end too. would it post on the starter solenoid? same as the battery ground?

There is no battery ground connected to the starter either. The battery cable connected to the starter is also a positive cable. Yes, the alternator wire should be connected to the same post on the starter as the heavy battery cable, but neither are grounds.

Unless the cables were adjusted, they should just bolt back on and hook up without too much difficulty.

The cables will only hook up if the shifter and trans are in the same gear. I recommend putting the shifter and trans in neutral before connecting the cables at the trans since neutral is easy to find on the trans.
