New cams installed
New cams installed
I finally got my cams in the mail the other day (been waiting on them for a while), just got done installing them. Also threw in 10-1 forged pistons, neutral balance shafts, Supertech 78lb dual coil valve springs, arp head studs, and a cometic head gasket.
The cams were custom made and ground to HKS EVO 272 specs. I haven't got a chance to tune it yet since I just got done with it, but it idles great, however it will stall when rolling to a stop. Toning down the corrective idle spark should fix it.
Small update: Car is mostly tuned, I hope. I ended up installing lifter shims that the grinder provided me and ends up I must have been losing lift/duration as the car is now completely different yet again. Took me forever to figure out how to get the coastdown to a streetable level but finally fixed it and had to raise idle to 950rpm to keep it running.
Lesson I learned: Drive by wire and aggressive cams are not a good mix. 2 weeks of tuning but I finally got it to run correctly.
New Video with shimmed lash adjusters.

^^Guy that ground my cams.
The exhaust is a GM honed manifold, cobalt addiction 2.5" catless downpipe and Corsa sport catback. The cams completely changed the exhaust tone.
Thanks bro.
Gotcha...I am thinking about doing some cams also, but going to wait till I decide exactly which route I'm going to take with my mods. I may be doing a turbo swap come this winter, and if this job comes through that I am applying for, I may have a full motor build to go with it. My cams will be a custom grind also, got my local speed shop looking into a special grind just for his shop. I guess it will be some secret squirell type stuff. lol...
Keep us posted on how she doin though.

That sounds pritty mean bro - lol I got JBP Stage 2 cames sitting here, not sure if im gunan use them or sell them lol. Especially now, I dont think ill sound anything like that lol I'd like to see your gains though. I'll be keeping an eye open on this post.
Whats the cams duration @.50? Going off advertised duration can screw you up, allways take the @.50 and multiply it by the rocker ratio to get your true duration. I've never met a cam that actualy speced out to the exact duration it was advertised as.
If you keep stalling on decent its a good chance its more then 272 degrees.
But all in all it sounds like its a great choice man! Wish I had some speakers so I could hear it
Question for you, how did you break in the cams before you started driving around? I HOPE you did break them in.
Just checked your link and I must ask why you chose them? Looks like they're a V-8 machie shop. Not flaming just curious. Are they local to you?

The break in period for hydraulic valvetrains is to hold the idle at 2000 rpm for 20 minutes at initial startup, which was done obviously.
I chose the company I did because the guy has successfully ground ecotec cams before and I liked how they performed in the car they were in (rice eater from the redline forum). The cam grinder was a friend of a member over there (fullthrottle) and he hooked me up with him and pretty much took care of all the work with shipping and everything for me.
Can't wait to see how you do with the gains. Depending on what happens with my car, I may be switching out the JBP TriFlows later on when I can afford to. It'll just be nice to have my car back running for now, even if it doesn't make the power I want it to. We'll see though...
nice al, i dont know what to get 272s or 280s, they way your car sounds with those cams is awesome, im sure mine would sound somewhat the same since we have basically the same set up being no cat. I just dont know whether to get the 272s or the 280s. Is there a reason you went with the 272s and not the 280s?
Ok, tinypic is wtfpwnin me right now trying to upload a newer vid. djt81185 has a better vid, they are starting to get lopey now as the lifters are taking up the additional lash. I'll have him post it, or if I can get this to work myself I'll have it up in a minute.
Edit: Original post eddited for newer vid.
