new project doable?

ok so i was just on OTT's website and i saw their Supertech 78lb valve spring kit. does that have everything i need to bump up my redline to say 7800 rpms? i mean the stock stage 3 from GM give you the option to rev to 8 grand so i am assuming with my mods i would still make power that high? would i even make power that high? or would i need to really do a cam swap as well to feel the benefits? i just wanna rev to 7800 or even 8000 just bc more revs are what tickles me i really need guys like area47 or someone who has done it but if you ahve any info that would be great. thanks!

You need the neutral balance shafts as well...like 300 bucks. I think people would suggest you also go for a return style fuel upgrade as well but I don't know.

To safely rev to 8k you need neutral balancing shafts. The added stress from the rotation of the stock ones throws the engine out of balance.

Plus supposedly these balance shafts free up like 10-15hp...that's what I read somewhere out there in the internet universe.

I'm not sure about the cams but I do know the gmpp ones they did make are hard as hell to find...probably jbp is your best bet. The project is doable but is going to be hella expensive.

You'd probably have more fun just swapping to the ls4 throttle body/spacer...good cheap mod.

You can get neutrals at Crate Engine Depot or AllEcotec.

Um...no it was a recommendation. Costs about 125-175 depending on the condition of the t/b.

You can get the neutral balance shafts
http://www.crateenginedepot.com/stor...15-P336C0.aspx

Or you can just remove them which is less expensive. I have a friend that installed this himself in his garage.
http://levelzeromotorsports.com/stor...bdb28f232f9108

I went one step further and removed them completely and got a shorter chain to run the water pump
https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...=balance+shaft

I wanted to remove them to up the rev limit but also get rid of the extra weight. Those balance shafts are heavy

theneelster: what does a ls4 have anything to do with this subject tho? like will it even give me a gain in power? it just seemed so off topic

bolus: what are the benefits (other than not having to buy another $500 balance shaft set) and what are the negatives that can come with having no balance shafts?

Id break it down like this

balance shafts:
pro: reduce engine vibration
con: 10 hp to spin them,

Neutral balance shafts
Pro:higher reving, GM tested,
con: 10 hp to spin them, expensive, vibration, possible higher wear on the car / engine from vibration

balance shaft delete
Pro - 10hp gain, higher revving, 20? lbs weight savings
con - not tested a lot, requires more installation expertise, vibration, possible higher wear on the car / engine from vibration

I dont know if people notice the vibration much in their cobalts but I can certainly feel it in the Atom. The floor of my garage vibrates when the car is running. It feels like bass coming out of a stereo. In the car, its like a nice massage though
