You want to tune or add mods? Seems to me add mods. Get you the mods you want and finish it off with a good quality tune and yeah I'd recommend the K&N intake, excellent piece but make sure it isn't over-oiled before you install the filter...

And when it comes to tuning... if you don't know what you're doing... please don't.. you can do some real serious damage

I am very new to the whole mod and tuning thing as this is my first REAL car i.e. i drove a s-10 b4 this. what should the first thing i do to/change on my car. i would rather save the money up for good parts rather then buy lower end bits and pieces.

G85 package on the ss/sc is (05-06) recarro seats and quaife limited slip differential which is worth the price of that option... 07's don't come with the recarros though

My opinion= Do the airbox mod and save the the 200+ bucks for an intake for either a torque dampener, engine mount, or part of GM stage 2.

I agree 100%

There are lot of factors to consider when you start to mod. Are looking for just solely power? Do you know the strengths and weakness of the car? What else would like to improve on the car. My suggestion is to drive it around a few months and see what you like or don't like. As said the airbox mod is a good start. I've been seeing about a 5 degree cooler temperature difference from the IATs to the IAT2s in my car since the airbox mod. 5 degrees doens't sound like much but horsepower starts by keeping things cool, until you do that you can't make horsepower.

To me the logical steps in modifying this car are.

1)instrumentation, you've gotta know what's going on before you and after you change parts. An interceptor and wideband AFR gauge are good starts. Throw in an EGT and some other misc gauges to complete the set up.

2)address the issues of the car, Wheel hop is the biggie on the SS so some motor mounts and tranny mounts are a must. This will prevent you from snapping axles or cracking the tranny housing. A torque damper is another good mod in this catagory. The clutch is not super strong on this car, but it can take a fair amount of extra horsepower. If you plan to go past stage II it should probably be replaced, while your at it do the flywheel, it will save you time town the road.

3)mods, how much do you want? Lots of horsepower, start with a better heat exchanger and maybe a meth kit to support the extra ponies. Then go with the bigger injectors, smaller pulley, and a good tune. Want more? Time to swap power adders, twincharger, twinscrew, whipple, whatever you want. Just know that if you do this it's going to be time to open up the engine and do some work on the internals.

That's a real decent basic guide to tuning almost any car, but particularly this car. I see WAY too many people here going stage whatever and not doing the supporting mods, for now they are safe, but lets see how their car is doing in a year or two. Supporting mods are the key to reliable horsepower.

Most importantly read up, research and have fun! Good luck.

comeon guys ease up.
if your not smart enough to realise when he said "tuning" he meant "modding" then you need to lay off the drugs.
way to welcome him into the modding world.

Welcome to the site bud. While we are considered "tuners" by alot of people, when you alter your car with different parts that is called "modding". When you say "tuning" that is generally when your cars computer is altered using programs such as HPTUNERS. where you can alter all of the different engine management parameters.

Personally Im very partial to tinting my windows before I do ANYTHING with a car.
but as far as performance goes, most people start with an intake.

I would strongly suggest getting used to using the search function on this site.
you can learn ALOT. also go look through the "howto" section. TONS of great stuff to learn there.

Read on and learn.
welcome to the site, and enjoy your new ride

I started mine with an exhaust. I've got the GMPP Sport Exhaust and I love it. After that I did Stage2, then Ingalls. Honestly, I might do the Ingalls first if I had to start over.

Stage two is a MUST though if you want to stick with warranty/GM parts. Its greatness.

Spend a lot of time reading up on this site, lots of great information but just don't believe everything either 95 percent of the stuff on her is dead on though. I started with the air intake mod that is in the how to section, made a huge difference in acceleration don't spend all the extra money on the whole intake. This is my only power mod so far, I've been working on the look and sound (audio) of the car first since I spend 2 hour + in my car each day.
