How much is this said tune costing? What you should do is find a tuner near you, or who is going to be near your AREA cough to help you out with a tune.
Another option is buying hptuners yourself and having someone sell you a tune. I have done that for several members on this board and they have always been happy.

Drew - just as a heads up the mpg probably has more to do with your driving style then the tune in itself. Generally the only way tuning affects mpg is with DFCO. It's possible they changed the dfco values to help gas mileage, hell i hope they did, but who knows. Does trifecta use hptuners to do there tuning, or a different program? If they use hptuners I would love to take a look at one of there tunes to make sure there not like zzp's lol.
drew - local tunes don't cost near that. If any local tuner wants to charge you that then hes a *****. Generally what I do for LOCAL people is have them cover the 50 dollar credit, and then toss me a 20 dollar bill or take me out to lunch etc. Now if the person isn't local, they cover gas there and back, the 50 dollar credit for hptuners and toss me 20 for my time and or put me up in a hotel for the night. Those types of deals can sometimes get expensive lol.
A good tune though from a reliable tuner shouldn't cost over 150 dollars in my opinion. And thats for a very very well dialed in tune.
Thecobaltguy - If you want a custom tune feel free to pm me and we might be able to work something out.

they use a different program but if u can find a way to view their tune u can look at mine if u'd like.
and well my afr went way lower than b4 so thats y it went up. and i went from 21mpg to 23mpg and i drive the exact same if not worse now cuz i have more power lol
and every dyno tune guy around me charges 495-600

Your afr didn't change mate, unless they messed up your tune drastically. Your air to fuel ratio when out of WOT aka wide open throttle is roughly 14.7 and thats what it remains until you enter WOT. The only way your getting more gas mileage is lets say they messed with dfco, or changed your afr to something HIGHER like 16 at cruising which would be dumb and I would smack them, or is if you were running a stage 2 tune and were running rich at wot and they leaned you out. All of those options would increase gas mileage so choose one lol.
But in all seriousness dfco is really about the only way to increase gas mileage when out of wide open throttle.
edit: Are these SHOPS that are charging 500-600 dollars or local tuners with hptuners?

Even with stage 2, the only way your going to increase your mpg is when your at wide open throttle. ALL tunes that are done correctly command 14.7 afr while cruising. Meaning theres no possible way that your getting better gas mileage if your commanding the same afr unless were messing with dfco which is deceleration fuel cut off. I'm not going to argue with you or anything on it, just letting ya know that tunes generally don't increase nor decrease gas mileage unless the tune to begin with had bad dfco values or was running very rich at wot.
I would trust well known tuners like area47, tom etc to tune cars but i understand wanting it to be done on a dyno so you can SEE those numbers. You will also be able to see it on the graph with hptuners, but it won't read hp.
Hptuners is a program that tunes cars and scans them. While your driving down the road it will record everything from the fuel your commanding which should be 14.7 until wot and then like lower to mid 11s, and then iat, iat2's, knock, short trim fuel trims, long trim fuel trims, engine coolant temps, and more. It's a great program to have even if you aren't using it for tuning purposes. For example my car threw a code the other day and I just hooked up the scanner and saw that it was a p0420 code aka cat code. I have a high flow cat so it sets that code off occasionally.
But yea, local tuners can be a great way to get a very good tune, or a way to get a very bad tune. It's all in whether or not you trust that person with your car. But at the same time they should know what there doing and shouldn't really be able to do any real damage unless there complete idiots.
drew - the shops out in cali that do tuning generally do it on the dyno . That's how they know if there tune is working or not lol.

Oh yea. Most shops charge ATLEAST 400+ dollars for a dyno tune. Which in my opinion is absolutely ridiculous. I can pay like 40 bucks for 30mins of dyno time to do whatever I want on. If I want to do back to back to back to back to back to back to back pulls I can. If I want to do 3 pulls, wait a bit, then do another 3, whatever I can. If a local customer wants dyno PROOF of the increase I can provide them with that, as long as they pay the 40 bucks for the dyno time.
I still always will agree that a CUSTOM tune with hptuners is going to be more reliable and better then any other tune out there because its tailored to your car specifically. It's not just some random run of the mill tune that will "work" on any cobalt. It's a tune that fits your car like a glove. Some cars like lots of timing, some cars will knock sooner then the others, there are just so many variables and things that a custom tune works out better.
I recommend everyone always trying to find a custom tuner to do there tune instead of going to a shop. Also more so because these tuning shops generally don't know much about cobalts. For example my shop Illinois dyno center has a bunch of great guys and there even great tuners but they didn't feel comfortable tuning my car because they had never tuned a cobalt. Now take a camaro into there shop and they will tune the hell out of it, with hptuners might i add lol.
Anyways long story short, always try and find a reliable tuner with hptuners to do the tuning for you because it will save you a lot of money and will more then likely provide you with a better tune that fits your car specifically and not everyones cobalt.
drew - and yea and increase in gas mileage is always great, but one thing I would recommend that you buy or borrow is a wideband or even call the shop to make sure they didnt change your cruising afr. You want that to be 14.7 no matter what. You always want your car to command 14.7 and if they changed that then I would get a tune from another member.
Another thing to think about for people that are wanting to pay 5-600 dollars for a tune. It is MUCH MUCH smarter to buy hptuners for that price and then have someone send you a base tune that you can work on. If you don't know anything about tuning, buy hptuners and then im sure someone can send you a tune that will work for your car, or you could pay 50-75 for a nice tune from them.
Example instead of paying a shop 600 dollars, go buy hptuners, and I will send you a tune. That way instead of walking out of the shop with JUST a tune, your walking away with hptuners a program that you can scan, tune, monitor your own car and others. Then we can get more tuners learning and more people helping more people.
Always something to think about. It might cost a little more in the long run but your getting a great program and I would put my money on it that it would be a better tune too.

ya i've been thinking about it but right now im still in highschool so my funds are limited which is y i went trifecta tuned until i get meth then get some1 to dyno tune my car. but trifecta is kind of a custom tune they send u a tune then adjust it if theres anything to change that u'd like or needs to be with no charge. plus vince is a good guy.
i would have gone with ottp flash but it would have costed me 125 for tune then 200for installin it. then another 200for wideband they said was highly recommended. so **** that i could have got a dyno tune for that
