NGK plugs

Are these OK? I asked the parts guy to look up iridium NGKs for the 'balt SS, and he hands me 4 BKR6EIX....I heard some people using BKR7E plugs. Will i get better mileage out of iridium? I doubt the car has ever had a tune up because it has 72XXX kms on it.

I use the BKR7E and no complaints so far. Our cars like them at .032 - .035 depending on the setup.

Mine is all stock, so I went with the stock replacement of iridium plugs. I believe the factory recomended gap is .040, so I think i will go with that unless you are saying it's better to have a smaller gap. No mods yet, but eventually at least an airbox mod, or an intake.

6's are stock heat range, but already a boosted plug... 7's are 1 step colder, 8's two steps, and so on.

6's are good for stock and stage one (or just a tune) i would even run em on stage 2...

stage 2+ smaller pulley is were 7's will come into play.

turbo'd / tvs / twincharge / nos apps. is were 8's will start to be beneficial imo...

The ones I took out were ac delco 12591131. all 4 were oil soaked on the threads. I'm assuming that the oil is from some crappy service tech who spilled oil whilst pouring it into the filler hole on the valve cover, or my valve cover gasket is blowing by somewhere.

Also, I wanted to mention that I didn't gap the plugs I got because after trying to gap to .040, it wasn't budging and I didn't want to break the ground off. Also I read the package and it says "DO NOT adjust spark plug gap due to extremely fine centre electrode." the bold and underline were actually there. Again, the plugs I put in were NGK BKR6EIX.

it says not too due to they break easy if you dont know how to gap them. but to each his own, and like ^^^ he said, usually if there is oil on them its due to someone spilling oil on them

DAMMIT! I started the car last night, and it was fine. I started it this morning and cleared the snow off of it while it was warming up, and when I get in, I'm greeted with a CEL. All I did was swap the plugs, didn't gap them(as the box said not to), toruqued them to about 14 lb/ft(between 12 and 15 is recommended?). The car drives great, and seems smoother, but I'm wondering if that oil is an issue now. I just came from the chrysler world where when you get a CEL, you turn the key 3 times and the p-codes come up on the display(or you have to count the light blinking...all depends on what year of car you had). I don't remember my Ion being able to do that, so am I right in assuming that this car doesn't do that either?

I would like to hear your thoughts/experience with this, I'm concerned because we just picked this car up last friday.

*edit*should I have NOT used the washers on the NGK plugs? The ACdelco's didn't have any washers.

Why is everyone having plug problems already? I can understand with alot of mods and heavy tuning, but just mild things and specially warrenty work. Thought our plugs were good for 90,000 miles.?

Not with the pig rich GM tunes.

Plugs are cheap. The NGKs I run are less then $2 each. For $8 I change my plugs every 10k.

For $8 you might as well just replace them.
