hey i need some help here, i took out the stock air filter and put in a cone filter and left the bottom open. since then the check engine light has gone on, then off by it's self. also i have no boost when i'm first gear, the gage goes to 0 when i floor it, but once i shift to 2nd the boost kicks right in. i need some help cause it's messing me up at lights and stuff cause the car feels very under powered in first now and wants to stall all the time. can someone help me figure this out?

Well sounds to me like you messed up a sensor or something. Must be something with the intake modifications you did, because you say the problem only surfaced after the cone filter install.

Go back under the hood and carefully inspect your work. Did you remove or relocate any sensors on the intake?? Are there any loose wires dangling ttat should be plugged in?? Trace the air flow from the new filter to the throttle body, and see if yu can figure out what might be causing the computer to throw a code.

As for no boost in 1st gear, It's probably due to the PCM going into "limp" mode. From what I've heard, when something goes wrong with the engine, the computer goes into a safe mode, limiting boost and power to prevent damage. In order to get it out of this mode, you have to fix whatever the issue may be.

She's running rich, possibly a fuel issue system issue?

What type of gas is in your tank?

 

did you install that k&n filter?

 

Strange, I had a problem in first gear also. I was only getting about 5 psi in first but rescently I have been hitting full once the daily temps started to come down.

As stated before, just inspect your work and make sure everything is connected and secure.

 

i'm using 93, i can't get 91 around here it's either 89 or 93. not sure if that would even make a difference.

 

ok heres an update, got my drop in k&n filter, put that in, put the bottom of the box back on. everything seems good. i got a cel but i expected that. first gear is back, i'm getting about 5psi of boost so it's back to normal, ya for me. nice side story, i had a buddy ofg mine help me before put the cone filter on and what nots.. well he didn't tell me he put on one those crappy as tornado spinny things in there.. i found it when i was swapping the filters, i'm guess this probably had something to do with my boost problems in first.. how i'm not sure, but it's a good guess. but either way the car is back to normal
