O2 extender

Is it necessary to have an o2 extender with a high flow cat?

i donno if its needed but i kept tripping the p0420 low cat efficiency code. i put spark plug anti-foulers on the end of the o2 and it was fine for over a year and now its starting to come back on again. i cleared the light on sat and was bck on like 15 mins later

An extension will help on a catted system. The primary reason to having them is to prevent the sensor from burning out. Catted exhausts get much hotter than non-catted exhausts. I would say yes, put one in for safety.

depends what you're talking about... are you talking about the wire that increases the length of the harness? like what zzp has with their setup? Or are you talking about something different.

no...an extender that actually pulls the o2 sensor out of the gas flow

clearing the lights will only reset the monitors... once the monitors go through their cycle, the code will be set again.

Is it pretty much a given that your gonna get a cel with a high flow?

i second that question turbotommy... idk if i have a cel because of the high flow, or because i melted wires from the O2 touching the metal heatshield above the dp

A high flow cat is going to possibly throw a cel. The cel does nothing, means nothing.

Another possibility is to have the code turned off through hptuners. That way that code will never show up again, but will still allow other codes to pop up.

it's very, verly likely. May come on right away, may take a week, may take a year. But it's a very high possibility you will get one with no or even a hi flow cat.

pick yourself up a cheap code reader. You will know right away. The wires most likely won't melt, that's where they're designed to go, so they're designed to stand up to some heat.

Either way, like said already the codes (whether they're for the cat, secondary 02 sensor, or both) won't affect anything other than having your engine light on. Can always get it turned off.

so would there be no effect on performance if i was to just elminate the second O2 and plug it? If theres gonna be a cel no matter what i do until i get hptuned, its pointless to let it sit there

No, because the second o2 sensor still works with COT managment in the ECU.

This can sometimes cause some power issues if the o2 is removed without having it tuned out.

mine had been broken for well over a year, and there has been zero loss of performance.
