Odd Belt Squeak.

Well i turned on my car last night and the belt was squeaky... So i but on some belt dressing and it got worse for a second, then went away...

So i hit the gas and it comes back... getting louder as rpms get higher... But goes away at idle...

Checked my oil, noticed engine was low... and got a couple quarts..

Now i only needed 6 at first... but it has gone down alot since about 2 months of driving..

This could prove you need 6.5 quarts (some people WILL argue its 6 for lsj)..

Anyway... could that be the culprit of the noise?

thanks!

you should never put belt dressing on serpentine belts, if it's squealing, it means the belt is slipping, in which weather change, especially when it gets colder and all the metal contracts a little, causes this ....oil level shouldn't have anything to do with it.

if it goes away after your car warms up, no worries....if it continues then either you need a new belt or you could have a bearing going out in one of the pullies in the line, belt tensioner is usually the first culprit.

Im going to clean it off when i get back from work (took the moms car!)..

If you overfill the lsj with more than 6 quarts although 6.3 is about right sometimes, you will notice oil spray up on the side of the block. One place that changed my oil over-filled and i had it for about a month until it equalized. Use black magic engine cleaner for a few days and it will go away. I use it for all my belt squeaks especially since winter is promoting it.

good luck
