Oil Catch Can
Oil Catch Can
Investigating my next project. I have heard that having one is absolutely amazing for your motor and keeps the crank case from building up to much pressure. Specially for us who are running "a little" more boost then stock.
Has anyone done this to the LSJ recently and how did you do it? I have heard from some honda guys (I know they are the devil) that if you get a bung welded to the valve cover by cylinder one and four that its the best option. Any thoughts on this?

Interesting. I have heard of some pretty off the wall set ups with oil catch cans including a small pump to a return line and such. I guess people had a lot of time on their hands.
So we are agreeing that just two lines to the catch can or the home depot air water seperator special works?

i've been doing some research as well on crank case ventilation add ons. In a few weeks im gonna pushin some good power with TVS. But with all the research i've done, i still dont have a clear answer on what is the right way and what isnt. I mean im a little weary on the oil cap filter, and i dont really want to welb any fittings to my valve cover. Will a catch can really help with ventilation, i mean i know what the purpose behind it is-to catch oil from being sucked in the intake. Anyone have any good proven mods/suggestions on how to keep the crankcase from not building up too much pressure?

Alright I will check out the build book. Most after market (expensive) oil catch cans have a breather on top of them. I mean its just more pathways for air to equalize with atmosphere.
Oh well just trying to get some advice from other cobalt owners. Apparently my buddy blow the rings in his D15B/w 15psi. because he didnt have the right set up of crank ventilation....

for LSJ's that are still supercharged GM advises that you replace the small breather on the back of the valve cover to a -10AN fitting running to the intake before the blower. an oil catch can would be smart to do in between that line
Sweet, I have just a little filter on the back of the VC right now. I just periodically clean the filter and make sure it isnt blasting oil everywhere. I wanna do something that looks good so i am thinking about some braided cables and fittings.
Thanks for the follow on info.
