Mobil 1 all the way.
or at LEAST stick with a comparable full synthetic.

I change mine every 5k KM's
I pay absolutely no attention to the oil life meter.

Oil changes every 3000 miles (~5000km) - the oil life monitor is usually about %60.
Always Mobil 1 Synthetic.
Frequent oil changes are the best preventive maintenance for an engine.

I use Mobil 1 and change the oil at about 30% usually. You are just going to start another oil change battle of informed vs. uninformed. When using sythetic oil you are wasting your money to change your oil every 3000 miles. Do some research on the matter - google is your friend...

This is not so true anymore. With regular oil; yes you should change your oil every 3,000 miles. With synthetic it really isn't necessary. Synthetic oil has been shown to actually protect your engine BETTER when it gets MORE then 3000 miles on it. Again, do some research on sythetic oil and oil changes. Make sure you look at independant research, because the research the oil companies do is going to be biased.

I already did chief.
and the first few sites i read over said nothing about the oil getting BETTER as it got older...

only lots of sneaky little clauses about running your oil past 5k that everyone seems to ignore.

I don't remember off the top of my head what site they were on. A really good site to check out though is bob is the oil guy he dispells alot of the fact and fiction of synthetic oil and oil changes. He even gets into regualr oil quite a bit. I just hope that you are up on your chemistry and physics because his site can be pretty technical... LOL...

you should have a close read on that site.
took me 5 minutes to find posts full of bullshit.
and even a nice big post made by someone who OBVIOUSLY works for a certain oil company brand.

Im going to keep readin to see if theres anything useful over there, but that place looks to me nothing more than a forum full of peoples opinions.
nothing wrong with that, but hardly what i would call "independant research"

you should change your synthetic just as often as regular oil ..synthetic is just overall better and yes it protects your engine BETTER when it gets more than 3000 miles on it because the oil particles that make up the actual oil are closer together than a conventional oil .. not to mention we supposed to take 5w 30..you can only get up to 10-30 which is the closest for conventional oil ..but its ok you can stick with your conventional or keep running your sythetic for like 10k km's or something haha ..we can compare crankshaft bearings when your engine needs to be rebuilt and im still goin strong

You are absolutly correct about the molecules being closer. You should change the oil synthetic or not every 3000 miles or 5000 km. the reason being that in synthetic oil it is not the oil properties that break down but the additives companies add to there particular brands. If you would like more information on this subject just visit the API (American Petrolium Institute) web site. There is alot of great information as they are a governing body.
