I would NOT trust that guy...there's a reason why the oil cap says Mobil 1 5w-30 ONLY...I'd be much more willing to trust GM's engineers rather than some guy at the dealership. Also you can be pretty much guaranteed if you run something OTHER than the factory recommended oil and something happens to your motor - bye bye warranty.

I'll leave getting into the details of different oil weights and full synthetic vs other oils for someone else to hash out. Bottom line is, for my SS nothing but Mobil 1 5w-30 will EVER go into that engine.

Have the oil changed around 15% and the service dept will reset the meter for you.

That is the most INSANE thing I have ever ever heard. The car comes with Mobil 1 from the factory and should be changed with Mobil 1.

Mobil 1 holds up to heat almost indefinetly while regular oil breaks down.

Wow I can't believe someone told you that, it's just plain wrong.

The oil life system is based on calculation made by the computer as to operating conditions, driving habits, ect. It's purpose is to keep people from wasting oil by needlessly changing their oil every 3000 miles.
