Oil Pressure Question

Does anyone know where i can find a diagram of the LSJ motor or know where I can mount the oil pressure sending unit for an aftermarket Oil Pressure Guage? I'm assuming there should be a plug that I can remove either arounf the cap for the oil filter or around the bottom of the block somewhere but I was hoping someone who has added a guage would be able to help me so I could save some time. Thanks everyone!!

I *think* it is here, where the red arrow points....NOT SURE...a test would be to disconnect it, and see if you get an oil pressure warning....personally, looking at the work it would take to get to it, I would say its not worth it, you are more likely to cause issues putting in the sending unit that reaping a benefit....

Thumbs up

i jusy have a thing about knowing exactly what my oil pressure is at all times. i have a camaro too and i blew the motor on it because the oil pressure dropped just enough at idle to cause damage but never caused a light to come on. ever since then i get paranoid about making sure the oil pressure is perfect. thanks man i'll definately check that out!!i had a feeling it was around where the filter was just wasn't sure exactly where. anyone else have any thoughts??? any place i might be able to pick up a spot in the block that is more accessable to addach the sending unit?

I still say you had better think REALLY HARD before tackling this....note how much junk had to be taken off just to see the sensor (which I THINK is oil pressure, but again I am NOT SURE).

I would just live with it...but, if you are going to attack it, can you first unplug it, and see if you get an oil pressure warning?

If you do, let us know...

Also...if you attack this from underneath, is it easy to get to? (I doubt it...)

Just resealing the hole after you put in a T connector that will be soaked with oil is going to be a major pain....you may end up with an oil leak that would be a bitch to get back to....

If you checked your oil level with every fillup for the rest of your life, I'll bet you spend less time than it will take you to deal with an aftermarket oil pressure sending unit on this engine....

Another suggestion...you might want to email the Aeroforce gauge people...I don't think their gauge does oil pressure, but they would know if the engine's system reads pressure, or just reacts to a low pressure situation...if it is just reacting when pressure falls to a certain level, maybe they could tweak the programming on their gauge to tell the driver about that very bad situation (along with the Driver Info Center)

If the onboard computer DOES know the pressure, they should alter their gauge to make that a readout choice....

And an aeroforce gauge may be a better choice for all the other info it gives you...you could then return the other Autotechnic gauges....

checking the oil level has little to do with oil pressure. you're car can be full of oil and still have no oil pressure. i've installed oil pressure guages in many cars with no problems...i just need to find a place to mount the sending unit in the block. i don't like the aeroforce guages because (no offence to those of you that have them) i think digital guages look cheap and i think 250 bucks is alot to pay for that guage. i'm going to try and get a diagram from the dealership and i can let youknow if i find anything out...in the mean time if anyone has a diagram of this motor can you please let me know...

Got something else for you...check autometer.com install instructions...

This is a cut and paste from it...

Oil Pressure Gauge Thread Size
for 2.0 SC engine(s)
M12 x 1.75 , Use a # 2278, Oil gallery located on back of block behind large water pipe
(a 2278 from autometer.com is a Electric Temperature or Pressure 1/8" NPT to M12x1.75 adapter, Product # 2278)

Water Temp Location and/or Thread Size
for 2.0 SC engine(s)
Remove plug at bottom of water pump. Use a 12mm x 1.5 Auto Meter #2277 adapter (a 2277 is an Electric Temperature or Pressure 1/8" NPT to M12x1.5, Product # 2277). If using a short sweep electric temp gauge (uses a single wire sender), then you must use a #2259 sender. If using a full sweep electric gauge (with a 2-wire sender), the included sender with the gauge will work. Sorry, no adapters available for the mechanical gauges.
