OTTP Stage One or OTTP Stage Two?

https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/2-0l-lsj-performance-tech-47/lsj-modification-guide-217195/

I read on this guide to upgrading your LSJ and it's quite a good read. It answered a lot and raised a few questions as well.

I'm looking for power and reliability and that is option 2 on the guide. OTTP offers a stage one kit that is exactly what Option 2 is suggesting except no heat exchanger and a 3.0" pulley instead. I priced out what it'll cost to do just that and the price exceeded what I wanted it to.

A Stage One kit + Heat Exchanger + 2.9" Pulley comes to over $500

A Stage Two Kit + Heat Exhanger comes to $494

Sooooooo.... You see it's a better deal just to go Stage II, but can an average guy like myself maintain such a beast of a daily driver?

Thanks

Go the stage 2. You will end up wanting to down size the pully later on. The difference between the 2.9 and 2.8 are pretty minimal. You can control the "beast" hah. Goodluck.

yea im in the process of getting a stage 2 kit and after all my readings over the last couple days stage 2 is the way to go.

but i do have a question myself. On the ottp website where u choose ur stage 2 and other parts, That last part says "PCM core charge:Please select your tune file delivery option."

Then gives u the options of Email, ill send my PCM, or Send me a PCM($100)

Ive learned alot off of this website over the last couple days but can someone explain this part to me? i kno what everything else is/does on the website. thanks!

I'm just assuming here too, but I think it means they'll send you a PCM with the tune one it for yours in return, email you the tune file so someone with a tuner can do it or they'll send you a PCM with the tune on it and expect nothing back.

My source is this website. I have heard on more than one occasion that people on here had problems with CA tunes. I just wanted to give the OP a heads up. If he is getting a custom tune on top of it he should be fine.

I'm a average car consumer, I don't know much about the thing I've purchased and that's why we pay people to screw us over... lol

Okay seriously though, how reliable is an OTTP Stage II as a daily driver? I've been checking out a lot of members cars and I've noticed a lot of Stage Ones so it makes me think A) they wanted modesty or B) the choose reliability over high performance...

The stage II owners (kits with 2.7-2.8" pulleys) have all this other stuff like Meth, and more supporting mods. I can only afford at this time a GM Stage II kit, Rotated Mounts and CAI so around $2000

Can you guys honestly say the OTTP S2 is really for a car owner that can't change his own oil?

What do you honestly recommend for a new balt owner?

If you can't change your own oil, just leave it stock.

I gots my ottp stage 2 on the way I'm keeping my gm stage 2 as my kit for the winter season when it snows and stuff

One thing u gotta remember is cooling mods are really important man !!!

like dual pass w/opt b and a Heatexchanger,

a full exhaust system will give u the most benifits outta the 2.8 " pulley

i should be done with my setup in boutta 2 weeks

Now what fun is that. We all start somewhere, I didn't pop out my mom with a wrench, I popped out with keyboard and mouse. Computer and software come easy, Cars not so much. It's something I need to develop but I don't want to get frustrated with constant repairs that I attempt or send in.

Just looking for a good place to start.

Haha, I hear ya man. You're right, everyone has to start somewhere. It takes a little time to learn, but you will pick up on it easy enough. I ordered the Ottp stage 2, 60lb, 2.8 pulley, and everything else that comes in that kit. I decided to have mine custom tuned. I have never had any luck with mail order tunes, ever. I've had several cars custom tuned, and have never had an issue with any of them. Its nice to have someone locally that you turn to as well.
