overboost problems

got the car checked out last week about an exhaust rattle and overboost. got the car back with the mechanic telling me there was nothign wrong with it.

The overboost seems to be getting worst. everything is bone stock. Im reachign in the area of 15+ psi and now im hitting the safety actuator. Any other idea's as the cause? i still think its the cat

I am currently fighting the dealer as well they say nothing wrong same problem they even supposedly took the downpipe of and looked at it and said everything was fine. But only put down 152 hp on the dyno at 20 psi on a stock pulley but supposedly nothing is wrong

ooo ooo ooo! i have experience with this... good story too.

this is my 2nd OEM supercharged car, 1st being a 91 Ford Thuderbird SC. back in 2004, at around 120kmiles, the car had very high boost for a few days... i was concerned, it had no power, yet boost was high... my dad came for a ride with me, and thought it was odd too.

i got in the driver seat, and at my dad's request he said floor it and keep it floored... so i did, for about 4-5 seconds, no power then kapow!! black **** flew out the exhaust and the car sprang back to life

if your cat is clogged, just get on it good and hopefully you'll blow all the chunks of platinum and rhodium or whatever other metals our cats use right out.

EDIT: wait, what?! the deal says it's fine?? you're under warranty still then i assume? tell them that the car is highly unresponsive and that stock boost shouldn't be so high, indicating a restriction of flow. then take your car to a competent dealer

That is the most absolutley worst advice ever.

You do not want to floor it and wait 5 seconds to blow the cat out of the back... That is just plain out stupid. You do things the right way, as in having the cat removed and then replaced...

That is horribly stressful on the engine, and could create far more problems than just the cat being clogged..

That is just absurd.

I wouldnt followthat advice. My friend's brother had a grand prix gtp and he started to lose power, well he kept beating on it an it started on fire under the hood and burned to the damn ground. The cause...clogged cat. And the cat was till clogged after the fire lol

So should I just keep insisting on it being the cat?

lmao yeah just floor the **** out of it try to stay in VTAKKKK for atlest 20 seconds.

no. just do it yourself it takes a jack and a few wrenches. take the dp off, o2 sensor out get a stick and a mask. rubberband a plastic bag to the end of the dp and beat the **** out of the cat until you can see through the whole thing.
next step order a highflow catted or catless dp and be happy.

i had the same thing. pegged 22lbs of boost on a 3.0 and got off of it and said the ******* sitting till it's fixed lol. it was the cat. clogged to hell.

i was going to use my warranty for what it is for but the dealer kept insisting that it was a result of underlying problems or some bullshit. i think he was trying to hint that my exhust valves were burnt. funny guy.
