Owners of GM Stage 2 kits with GM programming PLEASE READ!!

Howdy peeps. I've just received a GM Messenger note about the stage 2 kits:

GM ACCESSORIES - ATTENTION: ALL CHEVROLET DEALERS

Subject: 2006 Cobalt SS Supercharged Stage 2 Kit Drivability Issue
Message VSE20060289

Owners of 2006 Cobalt SS Models equipped with the Cobalt Performance Accessories Stage 2 Kit may experience an intermittent idle surge, "Service Engine Soon" light, and DTC P0507 set in the vehicle's PCM.

A revised calibration is currently being developed and is expected to be available to all GM Dealers on 09/04/06, as well as be included on TIS CD #9.

I work in the Parts room at the GM dealership in my hometown. If I receive another note I will post if everyone wants

Hope it helps

That bulletin has been out for some time now. Most peopel are having limp mode issues without a CEL.

It will correct this problem, which is due to inaccurate computer controls.

I'm hoping so. My small dealership here is behind in everything I hope they get everything figured out cuz I already have my Stage 2 in stock and ready to install when my car gets here.

I haven't gotten a CEL or gone into limp mode (except for the throttle body sensor, think it's unrelated, though), but I have had drivability issues. Since stage 2 my car chugs in the lower rpms compared to before, and until my tune last week, it began bogging bad starting in first and also the shift to second, no matter how high I revved. Then 2 weeks ago, it stalled twice on me, once while idling in a drivethru and the other time while idling at a red light.

When I went for the tune, they found my car to be off the charts rich, as my a/f ratio took a swan dive at 3000 rpms off the chart never to be seen again through the rest of the gear, had to be at least below 9:1. Jeremy, of Race Related, fixed it all up and now it runs like a champ, all previous issues have disapeared.

Does anyone else experience high idle on cold startups? Mine starts at 1300 then slowly lowers to 950. Dosent seem to be a problem just curious to see if any of you have the same thing.

Yeah that's 100% normal bro. It's kind of like a choke on a lawn mower. That slightly high idle gets the fluids flowing. It's perfectly fine!

I knew it was fine but what bothers me is that some people havent experienced this yet. That could be a hot topic. I allways let me rpms dip down before I take off just to make sure its running a 100%

Yeah bro that's everyone. It hasn't been brought up because it's so common. That's how everyones Cobalt is. I always wait untill the rpm's dip to take off too.
It's 150% OK!

Ignore the low numbers, seems everyone gets low numbers at this place, something with the way it's setup I guess. It definately wasn't reading the humidity right, this is Florida, not only was it raining all day, but the humidity never drops below 50% throughout the entire summer here. Also, ignore the green line, the a/f on the dyno was broken when the dyno run took place. The red line was my base a/f before the tune, and the blue was after. On the computer screen, the a/f showed all the way down to the 9's, don't know why the printout didn't, but the a/f still dipped off the chart on the computer, too.

Those numbers look great compared to the numbers I just put down with my Stage 2 and 2.8" pulley!

My max run was 214 whp and 196tq this morning. The car is fast as hell, but the numbers don't show what the car is capable of. I'm really confused with it right now too! I'll post them in a little bit.

Actually, look at the green run on my sheet, that's stage 2, 2.8" pulley, and Injen. It got cut off at the bottom of the sheet but my best with that setup was 213 whp/ 207 wtq, very comparable to you. The run @ 225 whp/212 wtq was with full header back exhaust and the final 236 whp/ 219 wtq was after a custom tune.

After cold start up, the engine can bog really bad after shifting into 2nd (even had a small backfire once).

Problem goes away after engine is warmed up just a bit.

i've had this problem a few times even if it was hot outside... i can recall two times when the cold start up was when the coolant temp was 90 and 92 degrees and it did that...could this be from the GM Stage 2? also how can i resolve this problem...

Am I the only one who has GM stage 2 and it runs perfect (except the power delivery is not

smooth below 4000 rpm)? If I can get the little surging of power at lower rpm's out of the

tune it would be %100 perfect.

Great power and better gas mileage (if I keep my foot out of it).

go get it n find out. this same update cures another hidden error in the tune known as the false lean/lean error which is the same thing as a lean code cept the cel wont come on unless certain conditions are met multiple times within the same driving cycle
