P0172 PTCM code FIX!

I've been getting this code for quite some time... Saying its too rich, I just clear the code. However thats annoying every 3 days to do. I think I switched MAF's from a injen intake from a junked ss balt. However a MAF's a MAF right? I've recently cleaned my AEM dryflow filter, and cleaned my MAF with the proper cleaner instead of carb and choke. However I got this code recently today following a few trips.

Is it possible to not B.S. around and narrow what causes it other then replacing 3-4 parts? Or without going to a dealership and being lied to, saying your fuel trim is messed up using different brand gasolines.

I have a 2.9 pulley, 42lb lucas injectors with Steve's flash of the ecu over a year ago.

MAF. Make sure it is the correct MAF for your LSJ, and make sure it is oriented the same way it was for the factory air box and hopefully no further up or down stream from where the factory put it. Improper orientation and further up stream or down stream from where the factory had the MAF is the primary reason for skewed air-fuel ratios which can cause dangerous lean conditions. The MAF needs to be as close as humanly possible as exactly where the factory had it positioned. Try going back to the factory air box with a factory K&N filter if all else fails, and see if you still get the MIL. Only change one thing at a time, then test or you will not have any idea of what actually worked, or made things worse..

Sometimes aftermarket filters lead to rich conditions, as they flow much more air, the computer thinks the engine needs more fuel = rich condition.

Disconnecting a battery terminal, waiting a few minutes, then reconnecting, often seems to help, then take it easy for a while and give the computer time learn your new setup.

It may be you will need to get your vehicle tuned by someone who knows what they are doing, if all else fails.

If I was going to clean a MAF, I would probably use some electronic parts cleaner like what was used on the old cassette or video heads, as it would not leave any residue like the stuff you have been using. Any stereo shop should have some in spray can form.

Good luck.
