pcm which?

My friend with zzp stage 3 is having issues with his 05 cobalt ss s\c and he believes its his pcm that's causing the issues. I have stage 3 as well with a 2.7 pulley and I was wondering if it would hurt his car or my pcm if I just put my pcm in his car long enough for him to drive his car with my pcm down the road to see if his pcm is tuned wrong from zzp. Oh yea we both have zzp canned tune at the moment.

If you both have the same set up, 2.7, same injector size, etc.. then yes.

What are the issues?

I thought ZZP stage 3 was a 2.9" pulley, that's what they list on their website. If the pulley sizes are off it might not run entirely right, BUT running a tune for a smaller pulley on a car with a bigger pulley will push it towards the rich end of things, which isn't ideal, but not as bad as the other way around and going lean.

I forget what it was, but the 05 PCM is slightly different from other years, but I don't remember enough details to know whether or not it'd be an issue. I don't THINK it is, but I'm not 100% on that.

Exactly how far his he driving it? I mean, the absolute ideal case would be you find a tuner that can come to him and leave the PCM in the car.

Well he has a 2.8 pulley and mine is a 2.7 and my cobalt is an 06 where his is an 05 and he is just driving it down the road and back to see if its his pcm that's messed up or something else..

Will it mess with my pcm when I put it back in my car

It SHOULDN'T but it depends on what messed his PCM up in the first place. If it's a bad tune, then no. If it's something about his car that screwed it up, like a voltage problem or something, then yes, if it fried his it could fry yours.

I take it his car doesn't run AT ALL with the ZZP PCM in it?

Hold up. Bigger issue. I don't think PCMs are plug and play. Don't you have to do a case relearn and/or get his VIN flashed onto your PCM? IIRC you do, but I could be wrong. I've never had to swap on my car.

I'm almost positive 06 and 07 PCMs are different than 05, and I think alleycat is correct, I think there is a VIN association with the PCM and the car, but I'm not sure about that part. I do know that the 05 PCMs are different though, so probably wouldn't work

They are, but I can't remember what it is about them that is. I know it's a tuning thing, but I forget what parameter is different, however, I don't think it makes them incompatible. I know people with 06 cars that have used an 05 PCM, but I'm almost positive you have to change the VIN association.

Isnt there VIN data and other vehical spific data in the PCM? Where
it would freak out because the Key Fobs, and Sec System and Key chip
all dont match up and the BCM sees a diffrent PCm and vice versa?
Whoudlnt it trigger a need for a Crank relean?
