please help! grinding noise.

Ok so im driving on the freeway at about 70mph. I started going up a steep hill so i gave it a little more gas. as soon as i did that i heard and felt a kind of grinding noise. i immediatly took my foot off the gas, noise went away but as soon at i applied the gas to try to get over the the right should it happened again and i could not excellerate. I down shifted and still could not aplly the gas with out that noise. Came to a complete stop, turned off the car. turned in back on and eased into first and it worked no noise. Once i have to go up a hill it happens again. Sometimes i can feel it come on and i can downshift before it happens and im able to creep up the hill. I threw a code but i dont have a reader, and i asked around at some of the local parts dealers and they said they dont do the free code reading anymore. any ideas on whats going on? any info would be helpfull.

pay to have the code read or take it to a dealership. A grinding noise while accelerating up hill means about nothing.

Sounds like the noise is happening when you put it under torque stress... it could be a number of things. Could be clutch/pressure plate related. Could be transmission or axle related. Could be lots of other things too.
