Poll: Cobalt SS 05 vs 06 SS/SC CEL Poll....

Mwhahahaha! I got the poll thing working. I own all

For anyone who has installed a Cold Air Intake, this poll is to find out whether or not you have thrown a cel because of it. It also breaks it down based on whether you drive an 05 or an 06.

anyway lets see how this goes...

I have an 05.... not CEL w/ CAI (P0171)... This is probably because of the Psi Fi kit... Although I had the CAI for about a month before the kit and I never got a CEL...

to date the poll reports no cels on 06s, seems to be a case of first year blues.

Has nothing to do with oil on the MAF. Strictly with increased airflow. I did the airbox mod and didn't have a check engine light for over 3000K miles then it came on. Once i put the airbox back to stock and reset the comp light was gone. Others have had the same results.

So far for the 06 SS only an 8% chance to get a CEL. Even then the person who said yes CEL hasnt come forward so take that for what it is.

pretty decent #'s so far.

Surprisingly even for the 05's less people without a CEL then people with a CEL. Thats good news too.

50% of 05 users with a CEL and about 7% 06 drivers with a CEL, big difference. Does this point to something being different between the 05's and 06's?

Anyone with and 05 and 06 willing to get the part #'s for their fuel Injectors just to see if they are different? (Just currious)

I dont even know where my fuel injectors are hehe, so I will leave this one in the more capable peoples hands hehe. IM trying to test a theory that may or may not make any sense.

Yeah, I can check tomorrow, to see if the part #'s are the same at work. I think it maybe do to the PCM's programming though.

I think its a computer thing too, but at the same time running lean means the car cant give enough gas to mix properly with the air right?

I know one of the staged upgrades was for bigger fuel injectors. I was curious as to why GM would decided to replace these. Its gotta be because they are maxxed out.

my theory is just that, I wonder what having bigger fuel injectors would do when combined with a 05 SS/SC that had a CAI.

if the FI where different from the 05 to the 06, this would practically prove my theory, which is why I asked that question. I just want someone to prove my theory right or wrong, doesnt matter which way.

Are you taking into account messing with the intake path on '05s vs. '06s? I've had my Red Line for a year with the stock intake path and never got a cel but a lot others that put on a CAI or did other intake mods had the light.

Boo ::theory blows up::

my only other theory is some type of computer reprogram? Is there anyway to check this? Is there like a firmware date or version that can be read with an ODBII scaner or somethihng?

As far as program #'s, I usually don't pay much attention to them, I just select the most updated program when I reflash a ECU, but the '06's may have the updates already and you can program the '05's with the same. I do have the updates in mine, but I have seen others with the same programs and still get CEL's. IMO the latest programs may help a little, but won't totally solve the problem for all. My research has seen po171 setting at cruise, around 65mph, not really pushing fuel flow to its max at this point. But, the tolorances are very tight at this point for fuel economy. So changing the air flow will disrupt that window and hence po171. As far as the new injectors in the stage 1 kit, yes it is possible to max out the injectors, but only if say the redline is increased and then a smaller pulley is added and then exhaust w/header and maybe a new cylinderhead. I feel the stage 1 kit offers the injectors for the reason of "looking ahead" to other mods.
