Popped out of 5th gear
Popped out of 5th gear
So, while on our way to our weekend getaway Friday, transmission popped out of 5th gear. Any idea why it did this? First time it's ever happened. Never did it before 100,000 miles.
Here's what happened:
We were driving about 60mph and let off the accelerator going through a curve with a grandma in front of us. She got into the left lane and we hit the accelerator to pass... not hard or anything, just normal acceleration. As soon as I put my foot on the accelerator, the shifter popped down out of 5th and of course the RPMs went up since it was in neutral. I shifted into 5th again and it didn't do it the rest of the trip.
Now, this morning, it was a phenomenal frog strangler. I mean, I couldn't go faster than 50mph on the interstate because of the downfall. Anyway, I get off the interstate onto a county road on the way to work and I shift from a stop, 1st to 2nd, and it totally boggs down and crap. It does it one more time from 3rd to 4th later down the road (like 15 minutes later). I'm pretty sure it was water getting into the air filter on my RAW CAI. Before you ask, I didn't get a dang hydroshield. It didn't do that going to/from lunch a little bit ago. I notice no difference in power/acceleration/RPMs now. Y'all think that's what happened? Maybe a little water in the filter? If so, is that totally bad or just something to overlook for now?
Any help/advice is mucho appreciated

LMAO! Please don't change the subject! At least wait until I get an answer then this thread is yours to jack, my friend!
Figured you had a Honda...
This is the first time it's happened. And of course right after Powertrain expires POS.

I wasn't insulting your driving. And you didn't stay how long you were already in 5th
After re-reading tho..You did say you were driving along and went to accel, so you must've been in 5th cruising. Sorry

The synchronizer has to change the momentum of the entire input shaft and clutch disk. Additionally, it can be abused by exposure to the momentum and power of the engine itself, which is what happens when attempts are made to select a gear without fully disengaging the clutch. This causes extra wear on the rings and sleeves, reducing their service life. When an experimenting driver tries to "match the revs" on a synchronized transmission and force it into gear without using the clutch, the synchronizer will make up for any discrepancy in RPM. The success in engaging the gear without clutching can deceive the driver into thinking that the RPM of the layshaft and transmission were actually exactly matched. Nevertheless, approximate "rev-matching" with clutching can decrease the general delta between layshaft and transmission and decrease synchro wear.
To dumb it down a little
They basically keep your gear, in gear. If they are worn it will pop out like yours is.

Nope, no codes... just boggled for a sec.

deff get a hydroshield for your intakes air filter. it not only keeps the filter from getting wet, but actutally protects the filter from all the grime and **** that gets in the inner fender well. The bogging was prob. due to a wet filter and the shifter popping out was most likely your syncros. 100,000+ miles on the stock tranny would do that.
