Possible answers? No compression

SO I have no compression in Cylander #4 what are the possible causes of this?

I am not the best with cars, but I know what im doing in the sense I wont screw anything up, just dont know what causes what.

Any help is appreciated, normally I have rob do all my work, but this is on the low budget scale now

Do you have no compression at all or is the compression just low?

If there is no compression at all then you probably have a broken valve. If the compression is just low then it may be a bad piston ring

There are many posibilities, but i think it's most likely a headgasket or valve.

a new engine is probably less than a lawyer to sue with.

I paid a lawyer about 750 bux for a reckless driving ticket, can't imagine what filing a suit costs.

Could be a collapsed intake lifter too, air can't get in it can't be compressed.

dude all you can do it take it somewhere and have them go thru it. we could sit here all day guessing what it is and the only way to know for sure is to get your hands dirty and tear it apart

^^^Exactly.

Regardless of what it is it can't be fixed until it comes apart so you might as well get someone to work on it. I can tell you one thing, it won't be cheap

How do you plan on winning a case when you voided your warranty by putting on those parts? The Magnusson-Moss Act won't help you there...

The cobalt is a compact car first, sports car second. To be honest its' built for spirited driving, not thrashing on it like it's some Ek platform civic.

Did you buy your car with a GM option discont? I bought both of mine with one, and you agree not to sue GM for any reason with your contract with that discont. Its in the fine print. Just like how I can not sell my car for one year, that is in the fine print to.

Just a few questions. how did it happen? What was the RPMS at the time? shifting up, shifting down, miss shift, any info at all you can provide would be helpful. My guess is a bent valve. you can discover that fairly easy. take of the valve cover and see if any of the valves are not returning all the way up. if it is a bent vall it could be just a matter of replacing it and fixing the valve seat. as long as there is no hole in the piston. that is fairly rare.

just something to think about.

a bent valve or a broken valve spring or something along those lines would be my guess and i don't believe these are zero tolerance motors like the ones in the z34 lumina's. either way you are probably going to have to take the head off to fix it and you would be able to see if there was any damage to the piston.

numerous things..

if they head was taken off then you replaced the head and the compression reads 0 then either a bent value or missed 0 lash when tightening down the valvles (i dont know how the valvetrain is set up in this car so this might not even been an issue)

gasket , or cracks in head/piston/rings/seals..
