Angry Possibly Head Gasket Time *HELP*

We'll i havent been on this site for very long, and one of my previous threads, i was talking about how i was loosing coolant. It has been a couple months and my dash is telling me im low again, and i can see where it has gone down in the tank. So i am going to go ahead and start making arrangements to replace the HG. I am pretty sure im going with a Cometic HG, other than that, anything else i should replace while im torn down? I am thinking about porting the charger. Please, somebody who has a few minuits on there hands, compile me a list of things i need to get and things i should look into doing while im torn down. Thanks for all your help

-Ben

If I was taking the head off my car I'd be getting ported and polished, arp head studs, upgraded valve springs and retainers, and possibly cams. If you're not looking to break the bank just go with the new head gasket and arp head studs

Are you sure it's the head gasket and not a small leak? Is your oil milky? Take your valve cover off and see if you can see any milky oil up there. Have you hand your coolant system pressure tested?

I would put the revised timing tensioner from OTTP in there just to be safe, but as they say if you can swing it get the head ported, there are a few threads that saying porting the Eaton is almost useless so that's on you.

thanks for the input so far. Like the thread says "possibly head gasket time" im going to get it pressure tested and do a full leak down test and go from there. so far i am going to look into ARP studs, and more than likely do a spring and retainer upgrade just to be on the safe side. Any one partial to a specific brand of springs and retainers? Hope this makes sense.. ive had a few tonight. haha

First off, go with an OEM head gasket, not a Cometic. The OEM one is an MLS gasket, and has been proven to take more boost and power than 99% of people on here even think about.

Secondly, while the head is off, definitely port it. At least the exhaust side if you want to be cheap. If you have the money, Supertech valvesprings/retainers are doing me just great, some prefer others, I know ZZP has some, but all I can speak for are the Supertechs I have. You only need them if you want to rev higher than around 7200rpms, which is useless on stock blower anyway, so keep that in mind. Not to mention, you need to do something with your balance shafts to safely rev over 7500 consistently (debatable).

Third, ARP Head Studs are great. I recommend them, as would others.

As far as anything else, it really depends on what your long term plans for the car are. If you give more information, I will try and give you my opinion based on that. (I say try, because I may not be on very much for a while)

Ryan runs supertechs in his 890+whp LNF so i would say that's a good brand lol. def port the exhaust side as he said, a cheap kit on ebay will work for like 30 bucks. And if your spinning to 7k a lot then consider an ATI under drive balancer since the stock one is useless past 6500. it also gives you a free drop in pulley size.

*with all this in mind, i wont need a new tune with these mods will i?
