because it would turn it into a $5000 upgrade and they would probably sell only 500 of them across the country
there would be absolutely no roi on it
with alot more power.. you would need engine mounts.. possibly axles, maybe head gasket/bolts, new clutch/pressure plate just for the start and that's not even starting on the actual parts needed for the stage kit

Spoke with Nick today on the phone. You guys are NOT going to like the news he has
2-3more months for the stage kits. Seems the "warranty" issue is holding things back!
I'll let him fill you all in when he returns from michigan.

not really.. considering you would have to engineer the kit/test which would probably cost around $200,000, then you need to market the kit.. $50,000+, then you need to develope installation instructions and train the mechanics to install and repair the kits... $200,000 easily. then you have to actually pay for the equipment that is being sold in the kit (lord knows how much) and before long they end up losing 4 times as much money as invested.
if i was to guesstimate i would say they have $3-4 million invested in the stage 1-2 kits alone...staying on a VERY conservative level
remember this is happening on a nationwide scale and has warranty issues and they are subject to alot more regulations than backyard bob making his $200 stage kit

To tell wether or not the wing makes a difference you would have to drive 2 cars, one with and one without to identical speeds. I can't see the Cobalt being unstable at those speeds. Now maybe, maybe at over 170mph or something.
Just saying that yours with the wing feels stable does not mean it would automatically feel unstable without it.

dude it doesn't take a physicist to look at how tall and skinny our cars are, at the big f'n hole in the front where the air comes in and goes UNDER the car because it can't go anywhere else. now with all that air coming under the car. you're telling me that without the horrendous thing we call a wing on the back will create enough downforce to keep the car from feeling like it's floating.
i'm not just saying it works... gm engineers didn't put the wing on for looks... unless they were going for first prize in an ugly contest
i don't need to test it, i know that's how it works. how many times have you taken your cobalt over 140? i run out of fingers trying to count... so if you're unsure unbolt your wing and go for it. just make sure it's not a wet road when you do

Your basically saying that it feels stable with the wing?
But you have no idea how it feels without?
And then saying the wing makes our cars stable and they would be unstable without.
But you offer speculation and no proof what so ever.
Do you have any idea what your saying? Thats not scientfic at all
I am not basing my opinions---(lets face it here--you have opinions too---but they are just opinions) on emotions or what I think.
I am just sayiing that I don't beleive the Cobalt would be so unstable at only 140mph to need a wing to keep it on the road.
Do you know what a Cobra R is? It was a limited edition 385HP 5.4L 32 valve NA Mustang.
It had a huge wing on it!!!
And it was nessecary to keep the car on the road at 170mph.
However the SVT S/C 390 4.6L did not have the same wing and is limited to 155mph.
There is a huge difference from 145mph (Coblat SS S/C) to 170 mph
I have had my NA SS up to 120mph and it felt glued to the road.

You know the wing is an option...not a standard feature....the SRT's wing is standard cause it actually does help...the cobalt and ion's are appearance items as they are listed...and barely sturdy enough to support them selves...though they are in a spot to get lots of wind.

-What exactly can the stock pistons and internals hold up to before needing to be replaced with stronger parts. Hp ratings would be nice for this one.
-What's the max safe boost we can run on stock motor/blower. When does the intercooler become inefficient. can the intercooling system be upgraded.
-What is the stock clutch rated for.

FYI people have gone over 180 with the stock 03 cobra wing. I wouldn't recommend it though.

i think you guys are taking the unstable thing a little bit too literally... of course taking the wing off isn't going to make you slide form side to side between the lines on the road.. use common sense.
it's going to be more unstable without the wing, than with the wing. end of story.

4-5 hours are up what news. I can tell you one thing I have been waiting for over a year and a half and if I hear 2-3 more months gm can suck my @$#@%$#%$#$^%%^&%^&%%^&$$^%#%@ and I am selling BOTH redlines and getting REAL cars and sad to say I have always owened gm but that will end. Why, because I am tired of the look at this but dont touch. Seriously I am thinking real hard about how I wasted tons of money in these false promised corperate backed cars. Well so far they have only shown how they can make false promises. But hey they took my money easy enough,no wonder they are going bankrupt.
At sema I was told these kits would be already be available by now. THEY ARE LIARS, STI here I come. The wifes already exspressed her intrest in the evo x.

Your on crack if you think GM is spending that much money on upgrades for a $20,000+ car that MAYBE a thousand or so people will buy. Especially with the money troubles GM is in.
Well I found some interesting info.
Stage 3 cancled due to tranny problems. If the clutch would hold you would begin breaking half shafts and such. So they dont want to have those head aches.
"And what other aftermarket parts will they come out with. Gauge pillar, engine mounts, torque braces, CAI. "
They cant due to how these all affect crash test ratings. My sister is in charge of picking what ideas they use next of certian cars and she told me how the budget is crammed and alot of other factors. She is also working on the next generation cobalt due out 09-2010. Aswell To everyone that says there is a differance in PCM there is not I have confirmed this from a performance engineer at general motors. The only differance is slight tuning modifications the stage 2 reflash completely evens them out.
Aswell Stage 2 has been delayed 2-3 more months, They are going to release the smalled drive belt before the stage kits come out so Rob, and JMC007 you guys can run you 2.6's safely Personaly I get 0 slip on my 2.8.
I have the GM build book, and all performance assesory catalogs for 2006. The build book DOES apply to the 2.0L LSJ I told them I was shooting for 500hp they told me new pistons and possibly rods pistons 340-350ish HP rods 515 and dont go one anything over that. The crankshaft is good till about 900hp. The concept wheels from the cobalt were destroyed I tried for an hour to get the lady in charge of wheel design to make them. They are coming out with 16" wheels similar to the abs one on the neons for the cobalt and 18" crome wheels similar to the concept wheels.
Now
I suggested to the Lady incahrge of all cobalt stuff.
1. All Wheel Drive about 50 times
2. Oil pressure guage at least
3. The one hit open sunroof thing.
4. More power
5. Guage holder for the center air vent.
5. White faced guages.
I also saw some stuff I cannot disclone and I will not post any information due to all of you that bombarded the person with email.. You guys searched his personal email and sent him insane amounts of questions SO NO MORE INFO i wont post a single sheet of info I got have questions ask me. Sorry some imature kids ruined the benifit for everyone. The guy was literaly pissed when he saw me.
Oh yea there is a Ion redline with stage 2 kit sitting in their parking lot.....
