Im gettin ready to order my oil and i think im gonna go wit Purple Royal. The only thing i cant decide is if i should get the racing version or not. Its almost double so do you guys think its gonna be worth it? Links below.

And how long will a 5 gallon pail of oil last me? How many oil changes?

Thanks for all the help...

royal purple isn't bad oil, I wasn't aware that they had a racing version. Its most likely just more heat resistant, I doubt its much better. I would say go with mobil 1 for the price, they are both OK synthetic oils.

what I would recomend you do is get the VP oil, its good for something like 14,000 miles (don't quote me on that, its been a long time since i've looked that up) and its a much better quality oil to begin with, although more expensive. Thats what i've ran in all my old cars, the local vp dealer went out of business so its been mobil 1 for me, but i'll be back to vp when i get a chance to.

Paul,
Nothing wrong with royal purple. It's what I've used since day one. I don't think you need the race grade unless you run WOT all the time. As far as 5 gallons. 6 qts to do an oil change. And four qrts to a gallon so just do the math.

The VP racing oil is actually cheaper than the Purple Royal racing oil. Is it really the best oil you can get?

ive heard nothing but great things about royal purple. the guys on the horsepower tv show used it in their LS1 camaro and gained 8hp to the wheels. that seems really good just for oil and transmission fluid change.

what i didnt like about that one is they didnt compare a normal oil change vs a royal purple oil change.

keep in mind that the horse power tv guys didn't choose royal purple because its the best oil out there, they "chose" it because they were given money to advertise it. you will see an increase similar to that with any good synthetic oil. I have personally never used the vp oil, but i have used other products they make and i can't say one bad thing about them. I used to run sonoco 110 race fuel all the time and ended up going to a different speed shop to buy fuel one day. the owner who i had my doubts about told me if i switched to the VP 110 octane (i don't remember the name, red something i think) i would drop about 2/10. I thought he was full of it, but he gave me 5 gallons for the price of 4 trying to get me to buy it, reluctantly i did. He was wrong. I droped 3/10 with nothing but vp fuel. I'm a true believer now.

the same guy has a 6 second alterd and used to run redline oil, he would change the oil every other race, he took samples into a lab to have it analyzed for viscosity and .... he said royal purple would last one race. he said he went a whole season on the VP stuff. I don't know if he was trying to push a sale on me or not, I gave him enough money on fuel sales alone, I don't think he needed to squease extra money out of me.

Take that for what its worth.

I plan to go to the vp oil when I can find some, that speed shop went under, the guy broke his back at leguna seca in a shifter cart...

as for chosing the right oil, shoot them an email, tech@vpracingfuels.com

I too have heard good things about amsoil, but i've never so much as seen a bottle of it anywhere.
