question about heads

is the 2.0/sc head any different than the 2.2 head?

i was thinking about getting head work done on my 2.2, and thought about the 2.0 head. its the same block between the 2 engines, so the heads should be interchangeable. my question is that if the 2.0/sc head is more free flowing. i looked on gmpd and they show 3 different heads but they are all listed for all 3 engines.

i want to get some cams, and possibly head work done, but i the ss/sc head is better it would probably be cheaper to just pick one up from a junker (rather than getting my head ported).

that was worded horribly, but i think you will understand.

sorry, i just figured it was a question 2.2's would ask, but it was a question about a 2.0 part. its also something anyone can answer, so i put it in general.

you are going to have trouble finding cams for the 2.0 lsj.

their are lots of cams for the lsj, JBP makes 2 sets, im know GMPP and comp make grinds as well as HKS regrinds. im sure anyone would grind you anything you want to be honest. depends on how deep your pockets are. as for the blocks being the same... yes and no. the 2.0lsj has more accessories involved like an oil cooler and other crap. head should work but im not sure about clearances when it comes to the valves and whatever else. the cranks are the only thing that changes the displacement on these engines so thousands of an inch differance could be problematic. its not as simple as one would be led to think

the LSJ head and the L61 head flow almost the exact same numbers, but the head passageways are actually different. Basically, a port on one of them could cut right through a coolant passage on the other. But again, they flow almost the exact same, and they have the same valvetrain excluding valves. Theres a bigger aftermarket for the 2.2 head though, so I would just port the 2.2 one out if you want to increase flow.
