it may very well be fuel additives: Refineries make a Summer and a Winter blend. It could just be what's in the winter blend causing the discoloration. I don't think the summer blend has gone into widespread distribution yet.....and probably won't hit the northern states till mid-April/early May.
ah nice, i may do that this weekend then. There are plenty of Shells and Chevrons near us, start using them. How did your old filter look?
Coolant when burnt will leave whitish residue/deposits. The red is from the MMT or possibly another additive in the fuel. As a side note, if you're ever trying to diagnose a fueling issue such as an injector, you can put in a bottle of the cheap octane boost with MMT and drop in a new set of cheap plugs. Then drive the car for a few WOT pulls and pull the plugs. If one has a lighter red tint you'll know that cylinder is running leaner. It's not as good as per cylinder EGT probes but can be handy for quick troubleshooting.
i have been using shell 91 lately, changed fuel filter, changed intercooler pump, and changed out plugs to ngk step 1 coolers. i gapped the plugs at .040 and now i only hit 15psi. should i play with the gap till i find the best set-up or can anyone tell me anything that could help me. car runs great now and no red plugs again (yet *praying for the best*).
