Well I did a compression test and there's no leaks and cyl 4 is holding at 210 !!* There's a ratteling in the head it sounds like and I think my buddy dropped a piece of the oil squirter when putting it back together. Found a piece in my drive way sweeping. There's some oil on the spark plug of number 4. I wonder wtf is wrong. Any ideas.* With the timing off 180 could any valve have got f***ed up.* Still don't kno why it sounds like a subaru if its got good compression.

All cyls are at 210?

What exactly did you do to the engine?

What do you mean you found a piece of the oil squirter?

This sounds like a seriously half-ass engine build....

Cyl are 190. 195 200 210. Left to right 1-4. All I did was replace number 4 piston. I honed the cylinder. Nice cross hatch. After everything was together I swept my drive way and found out looked to be the nipple the ball bearing seats against for the oil squirter for cyl 4. My buddy was the one that said he got the spring and ballbearing back in place. But we had already started the car before I found the piece. I did everything by the book and torqued everything to spec. Timing was off 180 when we first tried starting it. Fixed that and it started right up but there's a ratteling sound in the head. I also replaced the timing chain tensioner with the new revised one.

take it too a machine shop and have it rebuilt before you do any serious engine damage thats gonna cost additional money, no offense but if you are dropping critical parts of an engine into other places in the engine, you shouldnt be building motors

There was nothing dropped in the engine. At first it sounded normal but after idling for a few mins it changed tone to a boxer engine. There's not massive amounts of oil on the plug just a little bit. I don't have a shop close to me that knows anything about the ecotecs. And the dealer won't touch my car

how was the timing off? did you match the chain links up to the crank, intake, and exhaust cams?

Thats not good, you could have bent a valve or did damage to a rocker or lifter, i would pull the valve cover and inspect the valvetrain

Probably broke a rocker arm/lifter.

What spring are you talking about on the oil squirters?

My guess is when he went to line up the marks he didn't make sure piston 1 was at TDC. If i was you I'd pull off the valve cover like Frew said and if you can't see any obvious damage, then unfortunately you are going to have to pull the head. Check the tops of all the pistons make sure there are no marks or cracks from where something could have hit them...which is just a visual look. Then check the head and look at all the lifters to see if one is possibly bent.

OR if it was me and listening to what has happened in this story. I'd just pull the head off, junk it and buy someone's used one on here for a decent price. Then I'd re inspect the pistons and throw a newer head on.

When u pull the oil squirter off its a nut, spring, and ball bearing. The ball bearing seats against a hole on a nipple. Then as oil pressur builds it pushes the ball down and let's oil threw to spray the under side of the pistons to cool them. Ill pull the valve cover off and check everything out. My heads p&p. I don't wanna junk it. Also has 78# springs

really a full engine inspection as G described is recommended, but if you just want to take the valve cover off and check for obvious damage you can, whats going to happen with the number 4 oil squiter not working properly is......well that engine is not going to be long for this world

That's what I thought too. Because each cylinder holds compression very well. No leaks

hey guys i have the same issue, im curious if anyone has found a fix for this? i have a 06 ss/sc and i get code p0204 which is fuel injector circuit malfunction # 4 , i have great compression, checked electrical connection and seems fine, have spark, replaced the fuel injector, pulled the valve cover off and checked the rockers all seem fine, even replaced my pcm thinking maybe the computer was the culprit and still sounds like a Subaru, any ideas?

you have to go after the code. the code if you fuel injector circuit malfunction, so the circuit involves the injector, the wiring, the computer and the power source. find the diagnostic chart for the code and follow it, it will lead you to the problem. replacing parts without diagnosing it is just blindly throwing money at the problem hoping it will go away.

You have a problem with your wiring to the fuel injector on #4 cyl or the injector itself...
