Rev limiter: Hard to avoid

Am I the only one that finds when youre out pushing the car, its almost impossible to not hit the rev limiter?.. I love to go fast, and I feel the car gaining power so much after 5500RPMs, and next thing I know... Im on the limiter.

Am I the only that finds the limiter easy to hit?

thats what the tack is for.... so you dont git the limiter and know when to shift. When i firgot the car i was hitting the limiter in 1st a lot. but now its no problem.

Ya, It did not take so long but after a while I got used to were the revlimiter is in all of the gears. Just keep working at knowing when to shift. I will be come easy.

I only hit it in first. Very rarely. I know now when to shift just by listening to the Engine! =)

Isn't the issue mostly due to the fact that the tach can't keep up with the engine in 1st gear??

Ion Redlines have the same problem, 1st gear is so short that the tach lags a few hundred RPM behind the engine under WOT.

Perhaps GM will release a reflash to fix the issue. Obviously everythings electronicaly controlled, so you'd think it'd be an easy fix.

well when you go from a car that revs to 8k to a car that bounces at 6250...its quite the difference

i just shift at 6k now...i didnt seem to have any problem beating the cammed rsx last night

Mines redline at 6750--I think the fuel shutoff is 6800rpm. Too close.
The car is pulling pretty good way up there---sometimes i want a 6750rpm shift but I am fractionaly late and BAM---rev limiter

Like to get rid of that.

I was refering to my 2.4L SS---my bad. Still the rev limiter is annoying

But remember that the LSJ is still making power when it crashes into the rev limiter at 6750. So by shifting at only 6,000 RPM, you're not getting nearly all the power that the engine can produce.

If you're trying to compensate for the slow tach, try shifting right at 6500 RPM. Since the tach is a couple hundred RPM behind the engine, you will actually be shifting at about 6700-6800, which is right before the rev limiter. That will give you the best performance and you'll be at a higher RPM after you upshift

if you thought it was fun now wait till stage 1 or 2 and GM's sets your rev limit into the 7k RPM range

haha, but ya see, my right foot is slower than my left (too much bass drum?) ...and i hate hitting that thing by trying to get as close as possible. plus you lose alot when doing a run when you slap the limiter...ive watched it though, mine hits right before redline...does everyone elses??

in my base coupe i have found that if i shift at the perfect time i the needle can bounce past the rev limiter and i get perfect shifts.

I find it's easier to avoid the rev limiter if you shift first gear by sound and feel rather than try to do it visually. I'm usually pretty close when I check how close I was when I shifted. When I try to do it visually, if I don't really focus on the tach, I hit the limiter. I should be focusing more on the road, so I do it by feel and sound.

Does hitting the rev limiter damage the engine? It cuts off fuel right? Does this cause a lean condition?
