Ripped Off!!!! Help

Last year i had my exhaust changed and thought i was getting a Magnaflow cat back! I went to speedy to have a break welded back together and i thought, isnt my exhaust supposed to be stainless steel? The guy said no, its alluminum(stock) and i said, no its a magnaflow cat back, and he said, no its stock,,,all they changed was the muffler. 1. Shouldnt stainless steel after a year still have a bit of shine, or look like steel? 2. How do i go back and prove the guy is right and get money back? PS the guy who did the weld put too much, and now i apparently have some in the resinator and it makes a loud pinging noise every 10 seconds..... **** im PISSED! This car is giving me nothing but troubles Now!!!!

How much did you pay .. and if it was a year ago, good luck..

kinda feel like you're at fault on this one too.. why didn't you check to make sure you had gotten what you paid for?

First off, yeah, im an idiot, i should have had a look, but the shop was in Woodbridge, and i got dropped off in Toronto(30)min away, so when they brought me back, it was outside. I just noticed it sounded alot better, and didnt think to check. Secondly, with labour and parts$1000. So yeah, i got screwed. I have my car at GM body shop, and they said they will check if it is original. If it is, how can i call these guys and demand my money or exhaust back? I have the invoice. I knew nothing about the car or the after market parts at the time, but now know what to do to the vehicle, and roughly what to pay.

an easy way to tell is if the pipe go from 2.5 to 2.25 right before the rear axel. if it does than yes its stock piping BUT if not than they may have used there piping which may be aluminized and not stainless with magnaflow muffler and utilize the factory resonator either way for 1000 u should have gotten full stainless and the real deal

The stock exhaust system is stainless steel. It's a cheaper grade of stainless that's why it shows surface rust. If I was at the shop you went to and they said my exhaust was made out of aluminum I would get out of there in hurry. Hopefulley they meant aluminzied steel.

I could get two catback exhausts made with aluminized steel and a brand new magnaflow muffler on each for that price, lol. Shoulda cost you no more than $400 for an aluminized catback plus muffler.

When asked him if the exhaust was stainless steel did he say yeah, the muffler is stainless. If this is the case, then you didnt listen, lol. mufflers are ALL stainless steel. Thats why they shine.

Also it could be 409 stainless steel instead of 304. A magnet will stick to it and it will rust in time.

Correct.

Magnaflow uses 409 stainless steel for their Cobalt catback exhaust system.

Wow I am sorry to hear about this happening to you. I don't know how they do it in Canada there but I would try to file a lawsuit against the shop if you can get some form of documents from separate repair shops all making the claim its not stainless steel and it isn't a true magnaflow cat back like what you paid for.

Well, thanks for all the replies and info(Except for the dick laughing at me LOL) but the dealership is looking at it on Monday, and the guy is a member of OCC, so hopefully i can get to the bottom of this ****. If it is bogus, i swear, those guy's are not gonna like my attitude when i return...I work with media, and one of there customers happens to be George Stroumbolpolus from The Hour(Well known show in Canada) and ive had the guy at my club a few times and also got my cousins band playing live on Edge 102.1.He gets his 64 impala done there,so i will cause a **** storm. BTW, it never fit properly either, i cracked it a few times over speed bumps, and they welded it. If it is direct replacement, why would it not fit?

This is why you should buy a real magnaflow cat back, and take the 30 minutes it takes to bolt it on. No welding is needed... You can get a magnaflow cat back (the REAL thing) for about $600
