I was telling the owner of the dealership where I got my car that I had heard these cars had weak clutches and he said "well my advice to you is a weak or so before your warranty is up to go smoke the clutch in it so we can fix it before the warranty is out." He's a good family friend and meant every word of that too.

I have seen enough on the EVO thing to put some credibility to it, but as a GM employee, I can say that if there are isolated cases of this, then it is just that, isolated. I have heard within the company of cases where a person breaks their car at the track, gets it fixed under warranty, is overheard bragging about how he took the dealer for a ride, and gets charged back for the repairs. Personally, I make no bones about it at work. There is no hiding my nitrous setup. If I blow the engine, I expect to be responsible for it. On the other hand, an SS/SC should be able to withstand the torque of the stock engine with aggressive driving without burning up the clutch, so GM should and does pay for them. I would just about gurantee that if you took the car in with time slips on the seat, with broken axle shafts, that it would raise an eyebrow or two. On the other hand, even though I travel down the 1320, I expect that GM is going to replace my wheels at 35k from the protective coating coming off of them,or if my xm has a problem, I don't expect to take grief for it.

Everything needs to be put in perspective and us owners need to bite the bullet when we do abuse our cars into some specific failure. Just my two cents worth. Not the GM cops.

Excellent point. There were Dodge techs that did this with the SRT-4. Which is why I did not post my mods (unlesss mopar instlled them) in my sig at the SRT forums.
