Safe to use a 2.7 pulley without cooling mods?
well it makes sense if a stage 2 pulley is 3 inches and that put people at around 240 to the wheels and then there are many people who are at around 270 on a 2.7..lets do the math....3.0 - 2.7 is .3......well .3 times 10 whp for every .1 is 30 hp...hmmmm 270-240 is also 30 hp....that sounds about right to me...

ohh i didnt say i dont have any cooling mods...infact i cant wait till i get my meth...the numbers are just a rough estimation so he can get an idea of what he is looking at...i love how people throw the newbie thing around as if they know what they are talking about...i like to think i am far from a newbie with these cars but i admit i have lots to learn aswell...but calling me a newbie is just a sighn of your own ignorance..and i highley doubt your ride will evan hang with mine..so good day
infact were did i say anything about not needing cooling mods...i love how u put words in peoples mouth

very few people get 270 from a 2.7....very few.
I think the correct ratio is every 0.1" is 1psi
2.7's hit around ~17
2.6's hit around ~18
2.5's hit right at ~20
There is nothing exact...my 2.5 hit 21psi, my 2.6 hits right at 20 and my 2.7 hits at 18
as the pulley size goes down the torque increases....it usually suffers in the higher rpm band though
so a larger pulley (2.8 vs. 2.6) can make gains higher in the rpm band to offset the loss from the beginning...
make sense?
I really like the 2.7 pulley with 60's. I've run every pulley size from 2.5-3.0 and I'm set on the 2.7.

alright, well i guess ill stick to the 2.8 for now then. eventually i want to get another heat exchanger but thats it. another dumb question but do you get louder sc whine when you drop pulley sizes?
ok fastest stock pullied cobalt in nebraska....give me a break...my name should be fastest 2.7 pullied cobalt in tucson...haha...220 hp thats impressive man....just quit before you look like a fool
i see all the FUTURE mods in your garage..why dont you actually start putting some of them on your car before you start runnin your mouth on a forum...

2006 Rally Yellow Cobalt SS Supercharged
air box mod
future mods:
Cobra heat exchanger done, actually upgraded to CXRacing
Dual pass endplate waiting to be installed, I'm deployed right now
Meth injection DONE
Cobalt Addiction 2.79" pulley after searching around for quite some time, I'm definitely not going with this pulley
60lb injectors got 42's right now, I won't need 60's until upgrading to the TVS
HP tuners DONE
7500 rpm redline DONE
motor and transmission mounts DONE
stock intake haha, yep still there
Header waiting to be installed, I'm deployed
custom 2.5" header-back exhaust with magnaflow muffler I did a cutout instead
nitto invo on stock rims I did 10.5" Mickey Thomson ET Streets instead on 16" rims
progress springs Don't plan on lowering it anytime soon
Carbon fiber vented hood not sure on a hood yet, but not carbon fiber
RK Sport 3 piece spoiler I still want this spoiler
whipple or eaton TVS supercharger upgrade plan on it this coming tax time, TVS FTW

Though not required, cooling and flow mods will show increases in power and safety. The 2.7" pulley is going to be over spinning your blower from 6920rpms on up. Even if you don't run higher then that, you will be so close to the rpm limit of the blower that it will have a drop in efficency.
You really want to get all your flow/cooling mods and pick a pulley that will keep you below 15psi, shooting for 10~12psi if possible. Only people who will get in the 10~12psi other than with the stock pulley are likely people with cams/head work.
I went with the 2.9" pulley because with my exhaust and cooling mods, I peak between 14~14.5psi. I have >93% peak torque threw my entire power curve.

Sorry if this has been posted, im on my cell phone and it wont let me search.. Im going to be buying flow matched 60's, getting a smaller pulley and getting tuned.. Would a 2.7 be safe to use without me breaking something? As of right now, i only have the gmpp exhaust, rebel CAI and an ingalls td. Thanks guys..
with...
a proper tune
Go find yourself a local tuner
Just so you know; you will heat soak fairly quickly even if de-tuned for a 2.7 pulley w/o cooling mods.
Go buy a COBRA H/E & dual pass endplate and do it right.
im spinnin a 2.7 to 7600
::shrugs::
ah well
there is a fine line between explosion and ragged edge. you can run a 2.7 all day every day, IF you have the right safety net built in. the factory has a half ass safety net built in. this net needs to be doubled to handle it. even then you still run the risk of putting a hole in a piston.
what people on here like to do, and the trend grows day by day is repeating itself. some of you think that beating the holy crap out of a car. run after run after run. 160mph high way pass in 5th gear. it will end up in the same result. some of you have this mental thing stuck in your head that the car will be ok.
it's simple. you either, A. build in the precautions, to maybe take 1-2 passes back to back. or B. you say **** it, and go and drop pulley sizes and wonder why the car puked after 2 hard runs.
im not saying this to be a dick. im saying this because some of you don't learn. does anyone have an idea what their egt's are at the top of 3rd gear?!?!?
iat's 1/2?
this will determine what you can and can't get away with. there is a 20 degree iat2 temp difference between a 2.8 and 2.7. this is with a h/e and meth.
simple lesson to be learned here. do it right the first time. or don't do it at all.

ok, 2.8 it is then.. with a 2.8, 60's and a good tune ill be alright without any cooling mods until next year right? i dont beat the crap outta my car anyways.. i RARELY ever go past 80.. and thats on the highway..
