SO CAL LSJ Questions. Smog, Mods, and fuel.
I figured this may be the best place to post a few questions since it all pertains to the LSJ.
I have spent almost 3 months (of my spare time of course) searching cobaltss.net for information about these cars. I happen to be a big fan of the Car be it LSJ or LNF.
I was curious to find out how far you Cali guys/gals have been able to mod the LSJ and still pass smog. I've done quite a bit of research on the LSJ and have been in contact with some of the vendors that support this community (I don't want to show favoritism so I won't specify who).
Being in California means we only get 91 Octane. There are some options for 100 Octane in my area but I'm sure you are already well aware of the cost of Racing gas here.
I have driven 3 LSJ cars. One stock, one with a 77.9 pulley(guessing stage 2 kit from my research), and one with a 2.9 pulley(guessing slightly smaller than GM stage 3 since my research here shows the stage 3 being 76mm or 2.99"). Clearly the car with the 2.9 felt the strongest. Especially out on the highway dropping it in 3rd. What about the Harrop HTV1320-LSJ ? Are any of you running that? It would seem it doesn't generate as much heat compared to going with the smaller pulleys on the M62. Correct?
Here's my bottom line. I really like the look of the Cobalt SS. I'd like to mod it as much as possible while still getting away with 91 Octane for road use. For those occasional track run, I wouldn't have a problem with the 100 Octane or a mixture. Doesn't the ECU adjust to the different octane fuels?
Thanks,
Hawke-

Sorry for bringing this from death maybe. But your best bet here in CA would be to install either a k&n intake, or injen. Since now injen is carb legal, that is the one I installed. Cat back 2.5" madrel bent. And GM stage 2. For carb and passing smog here, that would be your best bet. I am also looking into the Trefica stage 3 GM flash.
