This happened to me as well...there IS a history of timing chain tensioner malfunctions in ecotecs allowing the chain to jump. When I had this the dealer tried to claim that I over revved the engine in mine and that it jumped timing when it bounced off the limiter. Then I talked to the manager and taught him a thing or two about ecotecs and engines in general for that matter along with the difference between a timing chain and a timing belt he agreed that I didn't cause the failure.

how do you know you bent a valve?

If that's all, you have to take the head off. drain the oil and coolant, remove camshaft cover then head bolts. I might have to do this myself soon. Not too hard in and of itself, but when you put everything back together you'll need to make sure the motors in time, which frankly i really don't know how to do. I've been doing a lot reading online but am not quite sure i'm ready to try it alone. It's the only part that sounds "scary" to me.

I have heard of this many times already.

Gotta remove the head... Put in a new valve(s), evaluate the seats to make sure they are not damaged.

I would pull off the head myself and have a shop re install the new valve(s)

You are looking at: Head gasket, Valve(s), and arp head studs...

PM us if we can help you out.

There are ways to do it, but it'll require at the very least being confident with a micrometer to get it close and maybe a timing light to dial it in(?).

yeah i need to buy the book so i can see how everything works before i go tearing into it. the hardest part to me also looks like trying to get it in time once i go to put it all together. tearing apart is the easy part

No doubt you are right I was reading that he had bent A valve and was trying to figure out how you bend one. Lose the chain ya bend a bunch of em....

Check the timing. If it is off any from stock then you will know that the chain has jumped. Another thing that could cause it is if a tooth broke(very unlikely but you can visibly see it). They tried to deny any knowledge of that happening in ecotecs. Some dealers are cool about warranty work and others want to do anything they can to get out of it. Some just genuinely don't know about common issues. If you suggest it as a possibility to them I'm sure they'll look into it for you. Just make sure you sound like you know what you're talking about(even if you don't) or they may try to walk all over you.
