some boxes showed up

containing...

time for a few changes to the cobalt. first off, yes i know thats a big ass resonator, its actualy a bit bigger than i figured however i did measure the tunnel and it will fit without hanging down. the reason i went so big, i want a deep tone but i still want it fairly quiet. i and going to replace the 3" thats going from the header to the cutout, and stock from there back. also shown is my dual pass end plate i built, what im using for an "option b" surge tank, rad cap and fittings. i chose this instead of the typical "option b" saturn ion surge tank because i can get it right were the factory intercooler filler neck is, leaving room open for a methanol injection tank if i choose.

except for the dual pass end plate (i built it from a stock end plate) it all came from summit racing. it was way cheaper to order the mufflers from them.

my car has 3" on it now that wasnt very well built. im going to cut it off at the flex pipe off the header and build it all in 2.5". i need to pick up some u-bends flanges and hanger rod (i can get that stuff locally) and start building.

i considered going with a bolt on system, however i really dont need a stainless exaust as aluminized tubing will last for many years, and the cost difference is huge, i will be into this for around $300, and i have a full 2.5" exaust. besides, i love fabricating and my welder isnt getting used enough.

Also interested in where you got the resonator from. My bad we posted at the same time.

EDIT:
BTW if you dont mind me asking what was the price on the resonator? I am thinking about adding another one but need to find a 2.5" somewhere.

it was around $85 at summitracing iirc. its big, 28" body, 33" overall, and 6" diameter. i beleive the magnaflow cat back comes with a 24" long 4" resonator, just as a refference to how much bigger this is. magnaflow actualy reffers to them as "round body mufflers" , however being a straight through design they are easily used as resonators.

the muffler i have to go on the back is a 5x8x18, its actualy the same as used in the magnaflow cat back. was thinking of going 5x8x24, however thought that was cutting it too close for room. later measuring showed me that the larger muffler would have fit fine.

I have what looks like the same Magnaflow muffler in your picture. It sounds really good til i get high in rpms. I was thinking of adding a resonator to take out the raspyness i am getting at such high rpms.
