Dealer Service = Parts Swappers. A dealer isn't going to do a performance motor build. They don't do that stuff. If something is broke they swap it our for the replace part GM tells them to.

In all truth thought you might be better getting another engine, you dont' wanna get in over your head/budget with an engine build...

I haven't been to every dealer, but I haven't seen one with a machine shop.

What was wrong with the numerous cobalt motors? Anything I need to worry about?

Some dealers will rebuild a motor, and have whatever parts that need to be machined, machined. They will outsource/sublet labor to other places depending on cost. Most dealers however will just swap parts, etc.

The sleeves are removable, don't buy into everything the dealer tells you.

Theres your first problem stop asking the dealers for help they know less about the car than you or other members on here.

yeah i've seen a couple dealers around me rebuilding 2.0 s/c motors by hand they do what evers cheaper. but in my case when they made me a new tranny from scratch it cost them 10 grand between parts and labor. I think most of the cost was labor
