sswweeett 2.9 pulley
sswweeett 2.9 pulley
I got my 2.9 pulley a little bit ago, but wasnt able to get to see it until today. It was at my parents house because I dont have a fix adress at the moment. nherbst454 makes fiinneee quality pulleys for all types of hub. "suggestion, get the polished... loooks ssoo damn good." I'll get a pic soon!!
It wouldnt do anything that a little bit of elbow grease couldnt remove. Just dont leave it on there long enough to start to get pitted. The pulleys are easy enough to take off so just cleaning it up wont be that hard. Try putting some zoop sealer or something similar on the pulley before you install it
soooo.. sorry to thread jack, but if I buy Stage 2, can I buy and use a 2.9 or 2.8'' pulley? or can i just buy injectors and a 2.9/8'' pulley and be okay?? what is required in order to set-up to use smaller than stock pulley??
would I need a tune? belts? where can I get everything??

With bigger injectors, even without a different pulley, you would need a new tune. To take advantage of the smaller pulley with the base tune, you would need a new tune. 2.9" is about the smallest you should go with 42# injectors.
If you want to use a 2.7~2.8" pulley, I would say get atleast 50#'ers and a custom tune. Give you about 80% or so of your duty cycle with the 42#, which would still be high up around redline, but not breaking 100% every time you go over 6k rpms (depending on your alt and outside temps).
I would suggest you also change your belt out to the S2 belt if you go with a 3" or smaller pulley, and if you go really small you might wanna get an oversize belt tensioner too.

okay, so 42lb'ers are stock? if i get the 2.9, I will need a new belt? I am not worried about getting a tune, i am aware of that part, but i just want to know where and what to buy.. it kinda seems stage 2 is a bit over-rated and that other options are better and yield better results.. thanks for the quick reply..
No, 42# are what comes with Stage 2. They are maxed out with a 2.9" pulley.
There is nothing wrong with the Stage 2. Granted, it is not as crazy bang/buck as the other stuff, but it is safe and does not void your warranty. Lots of people run it with a 2.8" or 2.9" pulley without any problems. However, if your somewhere with higher air pressure, a 2.8" will be too much for the stage 2 injectors.
If you decide not to go with GMPP Stage 2, choose your pulley size. 2.9" or smaller, 42# injectors. Smaller than that, 50~60lb injectors. 2.7~2.8" is about the limit before you start moving your SC completely out of it's most efficent zone and generating lots of heat.
So it comes down to one of these options:
GMPP Stage 2, possible Stage 3 pulley, GMPP Header, GMPP Exhaust if you want to keep your warrenty.
-or-
~2.7" or 2.8" pulley, 50~60# Injectors, Stage 2 Belt, Oversize Tensioner, Header, Downpipe, Exhaust (2.5" is fine), Possible intake, Tune
Both of those are fairly safe. It is important to improve your exhaust system to help lower your boost levels, since excessive boost levels can blow your head gasket. Two of these cars with the *same size pulley at the same location*, the one making lower boost will normally be making more power.
Since the Roots blower builds compression inside the head and is actually moving a set volume of air every rpm, if you help the engine move more air it will lower your boost levels (not as much air staying inside the engine), lower your temps (less PSI), and improve your performance (more air through & lower heat).

No prob. Even with the 2.9 you could run stock S2 tune, just it wont give you as much out of it as it could thats all.
The polish one boys os sweet, for the price I would deff get one over black ones!! I just wish I could figure out how to put pictures on here of it!

2.9 stage II. Anything smaller and your going to possibly cause damage. If your looking to really start pushing your car plan your buildup with some kind of monitoring and gauges. A wideband o2 is a big help.
