Stage 1 and 2 tune?

Hey guys I was wondering if I bought stage 1 and installed the pulley myself will the stage 1 tune be the same as the stage 2 tune? Just trying to take a cheaper route but still have my warranty.

Hold on what do you mean I wont get the same power if i have the dealer install stage 1 and they tune it then I go install my own pulley and belt. How will I not get the same power?

I'm pretty sure he meant with just stage 1 you won't have the same power as with stage 2. In other words: injectors and a tune won't give you as much power as injectors, tune, pulley, belt.

The way tunes work is that they try to target a certain A/F ratio (at least in these cars). So in theory the stage 1 tune should work with the smaller pulley. That being said, the GM tunes are crap anyway. If you have any way of getting a custom tune just go that route. I wouldn't risk something like that to save a couple hundered dollars and risk blowing up a $4,000 engine .

On a side note if you did decide to go with a custom tune you could go for 60# injectors instead of the 42.5# that GM gives you, then step down to something like a 2.8 pulley. You would probably be looking at about the same price as getting a GM stage 2 if you went this route, but you would have noticeably more power and a safer tune. I'm guessing you want to try and get stage 1 and then put the pulley on yourself to save money, but when it comes to making cars fast it pays to do things right the first time.

As far as I know doing the labor yourself voids your warranty just like putting a 2.8 on. Something you might want to ask your dealer about.

Well it will be stage 2 pulley or a 2.9 gm stage 3 pulley so if you do it yourself im pretty sure they arent going to be investigating my engine.

GM has a service history of your car in their computer. If you have a driveline problem and try to take it in for warrenty they pull your car up in their computers. If it has a GM stage 2 pulley, and their computers show that you only have stage 1, they will probably try to void your entire driveline warrenty.

My veiw on warrenties is that if I am going to try and get something covered under warrenty, I don't want to give them *any* reason to give me a hassle over it.

On the other hand, if you got stage 2 installed, you could get one of nates 2.9 or 2.8 pullies with the stage 2 bolt pattern and if you have any problems just bolt the stage 2 pulley back on and take the car in.

p.s. spelling warrenty > then me
