Just talked to my parts guy, prices and the stage 1/2 kit won't be avaliable until Feb 06 according to GM parts. Not in time for XMAS. Chances are all the crap that goes along with the stage kits, like tech line procedures, VIN checking procedures, ect will be holding it up cause all the techy stuff seems done for the most part.

Also we don't need to be taking pot shots at each other's professions.

I'm sure there is a considerable amount of training needed for the dealerships to install these packages.

That could explain the long wait.

Thats exactly whats going on. Had a talk with my (insider) at my local chevy dealership and she also told me there will be some issues with my warantee if I make the upgrade. Im not sure what will be affected and I KNOW we covered this before.

the grand am racing series cobalts are running what would be the stage 2 set up , and none of them have had any engine failures for all of last season

and several teams are even going to be using motors from last season

and all the motors are straight off the production line

and the guy i talked with sounded like warrenty wasnt going to be effected

GM will keep the warrenty for the staged upgrades, I am 99% sure. When GM was at the bash they said keeping the warrenty was a very high priority and that they wanted the engine to still hold up to any amount of thrashing you could give it. Reliability between a stock and stage1/2 engine should be identical.

Check out this thread:

http://www.******************/forums/...0&page=1&pp=10

It was posted by someone who was at SEMA, and he says he talked to one of the engineers who helped design the stage kits. It includes possible pricing information ($700 for stage 2), and other new, interesting, details. Sweet! Check it out!

If that is the price for a stage 2 that is awsome! Think about it, a pulley goes for about $120-$150 That means that they are only charging $50 roughly to install? that's awsome!. Oh by the way, that price includes install right???????

There are 3 part numbers

1 # for stage 1
1 # for stage 2
1 # for a Stage 1 to Stage 2 upgrade

There is no pricing or avalibility from the parts dealers. Anything you read here is speculation and subject to change.

According to my source the price isn't out and it won't be avalible until Feb 2006.

from the ion RL forums

"I spent almost two hours with the gm engineer that was part of the build of our cars...stage 2 will be in the ball park of 700 dollars"

sounds like a little more than speculation. its the first time we have heard a number with SOME basis beyond what we hope itll cost.

To install the injectors wouldn't be too much of a tough job but be can't just take the injectors and install them ourselves. Each Injector has to be tested for output and have to be equal to one another. If not then it'll mess up the engine.

Nah, there's nothing to test, check, or measure in order to match the injectors. They are all tested prior to packaging, and as long as they test OK within the tolerances set for a particular part number, they are cleaned(solvent) and dried(usually nitrogen) and put in a box. If you're comfortable replacing your injectors, you can certainly do it yourself. Just make sure you disconnect your battery first, use a bit of clean engine oil on the O-rings, and torque the fuel rail bolts to 89 lb in and the fuel line fitting to 10 lb ft.
