Stage 2 and a CEL

Hi all this is my first post in this forum. I got my 06 cobalt ss\sc about a week and a half ago. I just installed my injen cold air a few days after i got it and no problems. Yesterday i got stage 2 installed and drove it home no problems. Latter that night i was driving down the high way and my CEL kicked on. I got it scanned at autozone and its a p0172 running rich. I dont think they tuned the ECM. Since my redline is still on 6500 rpms. What do you guys think. Any help would be great.

the stage tunes do run rich. if they didn't do anything it would most likely be running lean, not rich.

its MAF related due to your CAI taking in more air than the stock intake..it throws off MAF readings and the PCM then sends more fuel to meet the requirements of increased air flow (trying to balance the a/f ratio) and thus a rich code....you'll also probably see a misfire code (p0300) from time to time..there's no real way to solve this other than getting a better MAF and tuning it...use the search button, and you'll c more of what I'm talking about...I've been getting CEL's with the Injen since day 1 that I put it on......had it on for over a year no...you could also have someone tune your PCM and have them permanently remove the code from the PCM that are setting, such as the rich code, if the CEL annoys you that much..that way when hte computers inputs detect rich it can't set a CEL bc there wont be a code programmed for that; it wouldn't effect diagnosis if you had other problems either bc there would be other sensors in the data a scan tool can read that would tell you if the car was running rich (long tern fuel trim) or if its misfiring (misfire graphic) so no worries that deleting these codes would hurt anything......

i had the same problem but i didn't have the stage 2.... after i put my CAI on i didn't have anyproblems but after 3,000 miles all of a sudden i've been throwing codes like crazy.... i've had p1101, po172, po103. I think they came on because of water on the MAF and the fact that the stock tune runs rich to begin with.

man these little things are touchy arent they. The only reason i think there might be something done wrong with the tune is because the factory redline is still there. isnt stage 2 supposed to bump the redline up to 7000 not 6500

lol, here's another one for ya...ur redline can be off up to 500 rpms until 3rd gear for cars with a stage 2...chevy had a bulliten about that a while ago...saying that if you hit rev limit at 6.5k it might actually be 7k engine rpm and the tach is off....if it happens in 4th gear then thats a diff. story....btw, no correction for that either....no pcm reprogram or anything...good luck with it though.......welcome to the forum...use search; it helps with tons of things..if there's something up with the car...there's at least 1 other person on here with an answer or who has the same problem that will be resolved before you...thus giving you an answer...sometimes you have to search a long time...but there's always an answer......

so by the sounds of it this is just the nature of the beast. so i guess i should just get the code erased and run the car and expect these codes to pop up from time to time
