Stage 2 install

I'm helping out a guy I know with an SS put on his stage 2 kit, since all of the chevy dealers around are retarded and have no clue what it is, haven't done it before, refuse to do it, or want a rediculous amount for labor. I told him that I would help do it instead, but I've got a couple questions before this weekend.

I know that a lot of people have used pulley pullers such as the one from ZZP, but is there any other ways that it can be done without ******* up the shaft or destroying the stock pulley in the process? What about using a power steering pulley puller or a hydraulic press to get the stock pulley off?

The dealer that actually has knowledge of the stage kits is around 40 miles away, so after we get it done we're going to take in in for the reflash. I'm sure a couple miles of driving wouldn't really hurt anything without the reflash, but has anyone drove longer distances with the stock tune and had any trouble? Of course the car would be driven with low RPM shifts and cruising at around 60 mph.

Why not drive the 40 miles and let them do the whole install? Or they going to screw your friend over w/ prices?

1. Getting the pulley off with a power steering pulley puller won't be the problem. it will be reinstalling it straight. I wouldn't risk it. I would purchase/rent the appropriate tools for the job...

2. You should be OK driving it to the dealership if you stay out of boost and drive it like Grandma going to church on Sunday...

Who sells the best puller? I think I've seen where some have used the ZZP and it tore the stock pulley to **** and didn't work the best.

My thoughts are more along the lines that the people didn't know how to use the tool. Here are a few options for ya...

1. http://www.zzperformance.com/cobalt_...=199&catid=142

2. http://www.smoothflowpulleys.com/Pulley_Puller.html

3. http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/...de=LSJ_Pulleys

The third one from Intense Racing is the cheapest. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of them...

Thanks for the links. It may be that the others I have seen have not used it right. I don't see how anyone could mess the stock pulley up, it seems like this tool makes full contact with the pulley and is designed for use on these SCs.

i had the same issue with my local bumfuck dealerships who wanted like 500 bucks so i said **** it im doin the hard part myself and lettin them do the reflash and thats it. The best way to get the stock pulley off is find a local small time garage with a 20 ton press (any kind of press really) and just use like a 3/8 socket extension to push the supercharger away from the pulley and make sure someone is supporting the supercharger from below and it will make a really loud pop when it finally breaks free kind of like a gun going off. then i just went and bout a pulley installation tool that threads into the snout of where the pulley goes on for like ten bucks and you just tighten down on the nut and the pulley goes right on until its flush with the end of the shaft. saved myself like a shitload of money doing it myself the hard part is finding a cool mechanic who will let ya use their press. hope that helps

why would you pay a crazy amount of money for a belt injectors and pully, just to keep warranty, and then throw away that warranty by installing yourself?

GM INSTALLED stage 2 has full warranty under your powertrain warranty.
DIY installed Stage 2 has 12 months parts only warranty.

dont believe me? look in the parts catalogue right under "supercharger kits and systems"

I know what the coverage is. How many people have heard of that had to have stage 2 injectors or a pulley replaced under warranty? It's not going to void the powertrain warranty.

Read the 4th post. Not all dealers are the same, for the majority they are idiots.

They have to prove that the installation was what caused the failure beforethey can deny you warranty work.

thats 100% true, my reverse lights werent turning on when i would put the car in reverse...so i brought it into the dealer. They said "you will have to pay because you have a aftermarket intake" i said "ok prove that my intake caused my lights to not turn on"...they couldnt so my warrenty paid for it

im going through the same thing with a place tryna install the kit. Most dealers are very dumb, but at the same time it seems like a pain in the dick to take the stock pulley off and put a new hub on
