Stock Boost???

Does anyone know about how much boost a stock Cobalt SS will have? How loud you think the Stock supercharger will be? Think it'll be about as loud as a Lightning or 03-04 cobra? I'm hoping it'll be pretty loud. Also i heard that on the Redline the supercharger is pretty much maxxed out for HP, and that the only thing a pulley kit did was make it run hotter?

the supercharger has a bleeder valve that the computer opens at 12psi to keep boost at that level. i dont know if it will be any louder than it is in the ion redline...its been descibed as audible but not too loud. as far as making max hp at redline, we really dont know. the car keeps making horsepower all the way up to the fuel cutoff...but seeing as how gm had a cobalt ss at sema making 270hp with the same s/c and a few mods...i doubt its maxed.

and early reports from people who have been doing testing with trying to incease boost pressures have shown the intercooler to be handling the heat very well and keeping the temps down...

The only thing you're going to get from an M62 over 12Psi is Heat

If all you get is heat then why did the SEMA cobalt produce more boost and not heat?

what he said ^^ gm put 16 psi, and from reading allthough it is hear say its been said the gen 5?? m62 is more effieicent and can produce around 20 psi effeciently. and as far as max power dman said it on the nose, the car is making max power at redline shut off. it looks like its still building so i'm sure theres an extra 10-15 whp easily above the redline if not more.

somewhere here on the board there was a guy from gm that said they will have staged packages...15, 18, and 21 psi so im guessing the S/C can handle the extra boost.

he also said and i quote "the engine can handle it"

do you guys think 300hp is achievable with 21 psi?
that would be great.

Those are some serious boost pressures, but I think the 2.0 with its forged internals and oil-cooled pistons can handle it

From what I have read, the stock 2.2 Ecotec used in the base model will experience catastrophic connecting rod failure at about 270 HP. Basically, it throws all 4 rods simultaniuosly. Not sure if that is with boost or not, but its still pretty impressive.

So if you figure the stock 2.2 Eco can take 270 HP, than the 2.0 with all the upgraded internals should be good for well over 300 . Sounds promising, well have to see what they can do once people start modding.

Its been said that the 2.0 can handle to up to 400 hp, thats what i've heard so it seems like 300 whp isn't a problem, afterall, thats what i'm looking for

yeah, the 2.4 LD9 and 2.2 eco can handle around 270-280hp before blowing up...... with the eco, the rods are the first to go. GM tested for their race cars by dumping increasing amounts of nitrous untill it blew.

the 2.0, however, will handle a lot more(unless they seriously screwed up)... the rods are forged, unstead of powder cast(which isn't worth a ****), and the shorter stroke greatly decreases the strain on them.

you guys need to understand boost is pressure, and the computer limits that pressure, so when you stop the cpu from doing that, it will allow more boost, gm opened up the exhaust and intake, did a re-tune on the ecu and got 270 out of it, they didn't change pulley's or anything, PSI-FI already has a piggyback prepped for the Redline, so their tuning, combined with opened up intake and exhaust should yeild some great gains!

i'm wondering what a nice little toy will do Apex s-afc controller. those things do wonders for boosted applications and n/a applications. hmmmmmmmm.

PSI-FI has already developed a piggy back for the redline, should be available soon, so you'll be better off with theirs as it will be pretuned, i am hopeing that they'll take my headers, intake, exhaust, and do a tune with that setup as well!!!!

but if you're good with tuning, the SAFC2 is a nice option. me, i'll stick with a pretuned setup!

Same here, I only would use a SAFC if I knew what I was doing, it also takes time to tune it properly.

You guys are going to go that high with the Eaton? Good Luck.

I've already spoken to a guy about making custom Adapter's for my Blower swap.

250 Wheel Horsepower should be easily attained with 8-10Psi of Boost

has anyone here used the SAFC-II on a cobalt SS S/C yet? I've heard people telling me the ECU will compensate for adjusted fuel trims and just end up with the stock a/f. Just wondering if this is true. I've tuned w/ AFC before, but not on a cobalt. Just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas.

Reviving threads to post relevant information/ask questions on things that haven't been posted elsewhere is one thing. But reviving a 12 year old thread to post something that has long been answered elsewhere is NOT needed.

I definitly noticed a difference with the zip 3"inch cold air intake for the lsj before I put a full 3"inch exhaust on with a header and downpipe.
