Its hard to say, most people that have blown their engines were cause of bad tunes or running to lean. The M62 makes lots of heat with smaller pulleys aswell, I would add a dual pass plate and water/meth to your mod list to keep the AIT down. I would recondmend a Custon HP tune from your local performance shop. You will see better gains this way as well since it is custom for your car. Just make sure you have a good tuner. I would also recondmend a better Head gasket and head studs. check out the supporting vendors sites.
But other than that, the motor is pretty strong and should handle 500-600hp minus the pistons which people will agrue how much they can handle. I would say somewhere between 350-400 would be the limits of the pistons. But a shitty tune can change that....

Yeah, tuning is the only real major concern IMO. But I would add water/meth and a dual pass, you will see better gains cause you can add more timing.

It should as long as it is tuned good which you said it is. But the more supporting mods, the better. A Intercepter gauge might be a nice add on aswell.....
Do you have any wheel hopping probs?? I would look into some motor mounts if you dont have any, cobalt performance parts is selling the tranny mount inserts for 25.99 I believe, and then add on a motor mount.

on a side note.. I"ve been runnin a 2.55 pulley and other supporting mods with a really good tune (my own) and my motor is fine, did a leak down test on it a few weeks ago when I hit 17000 miles and its all good.

Iam really thinking of geting a 2.5, and water/meth, how much boost did the 2.5 put you, depending on weather with my 2.7 iam runing 17-19.5, so i guess gasket/studs should be on my list also.

with the c/a header, 3" d.p.. and 3" side exit... I was seeing 20.5 psi from 5500 rpm up...
with the 2.5 catback I"m seeing 21-22 psi

How is your gaskets holding up, i think if i do the 2.5, water/meth and gasket/studs would be a must with my c/a 2.5 with cat d/p, and megan racing 2.5" catback.

Did you dyno both times to see the differance? 3" exhaust vs 2.5" exhaust? I am going to probally go with a 2.6 or 2.5 pulley this spring and was wondering what I should go with for exhaust. You will see less boost with a higher flowing exhaust but will you loss power or gain power? You should still gain power, shouldnt you???

Sorry for highjacking the thread.....

gonna dyno next week,.. should have everything back in... but run the 2.5" exhaust see if there is any difference.. unfortunatly it will be at 2 different dyno's so the numbers won';t be as accurate..
but I did end up with 296 whp with the old setup

replaced the intake manifold gasket and s/c gasket... but I was chasing a vacuum leak issue... ended up being the sc was fucked up not the gaskets.. and the head gasket is still fine.. did a leakdown test a few weeks ago and all is good

I wouldnt trust the pistons to last too far beyond 300whp

me neither... but so far it has... its all in the tuning.. look at what RIPP did with their SRT-4..
519 whp on a stock internal motor.. and I think the srt pistons are the same as ours.
