Strut bar

I read somewhere that the strut bars available for our cars, like dc and mrz, are for looks and don't really add any performance. Is that true?

I wouldn't say that they do not add any additional performance. I think that they do but it isn't going to be a huge change in the handling of the vehicle.

When I put on my MRZ bar, I found that the front was a little tighter and more planted. I didn't feel like a huge change but more of a slight change in performance.

The strut bar is connecting the two strut towers together so It is making them more rigid.

I didnt really notice my strut bar so much as when i added my swaybar to the rear. i noticed more of a difference in the handeling then. theyre close in price so if you had to choose between the two id say get a rear swaybar first. just my .02 tho

lol... well i guess my perceptions were deceiving me... oh well. I guess the only consolation is that the MRZ one looks decent. It does make sense that since the towers are so close to the fire wall and more structure, that the effect of the bar/mounting style would be limited.

Even talking to GMPP engineer Bill, they tested the strut tower bar and it did nothing for the car. Its appearance mod only. If you want handling get a rear sway bar, its a huge upgrade. OTTP street bar for standard DD and only a little autox, if you are a hardcore road racer/autox'er get the ottp hardcore bar.

our strut towers are attached to the firewall so a strut tower bar has no effect.

i have a question. when you put on the stb why do you have to lift the car up to get it to fit correctly. doesnt that mean that there is flex in the system and it is stopping the flex when you put the bar in place?
