supercharger oil?

ok so I was talking to a friend and he said you need to change your oil in a supercharger at least every 30,000. I didn't know that, were do you check the oil on are supercharger and what oil do you use? also how do you change it?

uh no, Pretty sure its around 100k miles but many people do it sooner to keep it lasting just like changing engine oil every 3 instead of 5k even though it "could" go that long. I dont know if GM sells the maintenance kit but magnuson does.

The s/c is a sealed component... it DOES NOT need to have its oil changed... ever actually...

100k is the point to where you might want to change it, just because... but it is a lifetime sealed unit...

If you search the how-to section, it shows you how, and how much oil...

You dont really need to even think about doing this yet...

if your friend tells you otherwise, dont listen.

The lifetime ie. "service life" is 100k miles. I would maintenance it sooner, here is what Magnuson says:

The other thing that Magnuson recommended was to replace the nose drive every 60,000 miles. They say that as the supercharger exceeds 60,000 miles the bearings in the nose drive start to wear and shed metal. This metal floats around it the supercharger oil and can cause damage to the main bearings that support the supercharger impellers. When these bearings fail the whole supercharger will then require overhauling.

You can obtain an overhauled nose drive from Magnuson with all new parts in it. The only thing that is reused is the housing. The overhauled nose drive comes with everything you need to replace it, the nose drive, oil, a new shaft coupler, and the needed sealant for the casing.
Its not a expensive kit so 60 wouldnt be bad but you dont have to do it at 60.

the reason I have been wondering is because I have 60,000 on my car and just put a ottp stage 1 kit on, I was out driving around when I decided to race my brothers ss/tc and I hit 7,000rpm while racing after that my supercharger has been making a louder humming noise at idle and under throttle (docent sound healthy at all) I just need some help.....also my women missed a gear and revved it hard to, safe to say she docent drive it anymore

yeah but just like TRD says, the life of the SC is 100k miles... sooo why not just do the maintenance and keep it longer than 100k miles.

Because it will last longer than 100k, even if you dont change it.

Its not something that needs to be done.

yeah do a oil and coupler change on it. in one of those links is the p/n for the oil and directions how to change it. But magnuson sells the full maintenance kits.

haha not always, look how many people have their couples making noises. Why are so many people against preventative maintenance.

Why do you keep referring to manguson? when our blowers are made by eaton... They build them differently.

Couplers, and oil changes, are two different things.

No need for sealant.
1. "Magnuson Products, Inc. is the only Eaton-authorized repair station" I would assume Magnuson would have cheaper kits than Eaton....

2. That is ONLY for the oil change not opening up the snout to change the coupler.

Use sealant for coupler, not changing oil.

1 - There is no need for a kit... you need two bottles of supercharger oil (you only use 1.5 bottles)... the coupler comes directly from eaton... Or you can buy ZZP's..
